Is the laptop new or used?
If it's new, you need to contact the store where it was purchased. They will be bound by law to replace the faulty battery.
If the laptop is second-hand, then you'll probably have to buy a new battery. They only seem to last for a couple of years (at most) before they need replacing.

Not the laptop, but the battery must be.
When I got a new laptop a few years ago, the battery lasted a good two hours. Now with improved technology, batteries should last even longer. Certainly not less.
Just see the place and take the attitude of "I know you didn't mean to sell me a lemon with this battery but it's not up to the usual high standard of this brand, and I think I must have inadvertently got a dud" :-)
If you are polite and reasonable, they will look after you!
