Gabby - One of our torties
What a pretty calico girl! I had a co-worker who snuck me into the area he worked to show me the kitten he had just adopted. I looked at the kitten and said: "what a pretty girl"He wanted to know HOW I knew it was a girl. I told him calicos are always girls. He then said that he wished he'd shown her to me BEFORE he'd spent $50 at the vet getting her sexed! A calico is considered a tortie with white.

It's easy to tell if a cat is male or female if you are an experienced cat person. The shape of the head and body is different - particularly the head. I've been able to tell if a cat was male or female just by looking at an indistinct mobile phone picture of it. In Britain, we call all cats of this colour mix, tortoiseshell (or tortie for short). As you, Elic will know, it carries the gene that in the male gives an orange (ginger here) tabby.

Bottle babies - Some of the bottle babies from fall 2007
Kittens are much harder to tell, and that kitten was about 6 weeks old. Heck, I took the bottle babies to the vet at 10 days when I got them and the vet miss-sexed 3 of them!

Her fur seems find and her calico coloring is placed low on her body. It is rather unuusal but she is very cute. I have a calico. They say calico's have very distinctive personalities and my Paisley just does, she is very bossy, she is quite the riot here in the house with three other cats. Shs also loves to throw herself down on the bed or the floor and flirt by squiggling around and purring loud. She hates to be picked up, when I do she stiffens up, puts her eats back, bulges her eyes out, and screams and growls. Now if you were with me you would say that is a viscous cat but really, she is funny, we laugh at her. It is not her mean growl. She is saying I do not wish to be held by you now, put me down. She will not look me in the eye and she shows no meanness. Torties and Calicos and Torbies are all different. A calico with gray beige and white is a Dilute Calico. There are a few rare male calicos and they are very rare. You never know what color the cats are going to be when they pop out of momma, especially if momma was an outside cat as they could all have different poppa's. Don't forget to spay and neuter your babies. Momma's are very fertile while they are nursing.

She's beautiful and not odd but rare! Seriously I've never seen one with so much white round the neck like that, and in over 57 years keeping, showing and breeding and 'fostering' cats, I've seen thousands! All cats have something that makes them unique of course but I must say she really 'stands out'. If you ever need a new home for her, just let me know! LOL.

You cat is not odd at all. All cats have a special trait which makes them unique. Our cat is a grey tabby but the markings that she has on her my family along with the vet have never seen markings like hers. She's got a weird tail like a rattle snack and it actually shakes like one as well just doesn't make the sound like one. As well as her whiskers. They are longer than usually. She has a white belly with tan markings.
