The Armed Forces of the Philippines is recommending a national I.D. system. They said that the establishment of identities would be a helpful tool in tracking down criminals and terrorists. Are you in favor of this? what is your opinion?

A national I.D. might be helpful, yes, but,it could also be dangerous if the intentions of establishing it is beyond tracking down criminals and terrorists and unifying the different I.D.'s we have...What must be cleared on this issue is the safetiness of the public especially of our privacy. The proposal could violate our right to our own privacy so this idea must have a thorough study first.

National I.D. is good but the main objective for having such should not be to track down criminals and terrorists. If the AFP is efficient, they can get them without national I.D. If this is the main purpose, it is really dangerous to impose on the citizenry to have such national I.D. We are not as yet progressive as other countries and how could we compel people in remote areas to have their national I.D.? Food is the basic problem which they lack and so why care about having such a national I.D. which is not easy to have? They cannot even supply the Voter's I.D. And providing the national I.D. is really a problem not only as regards budget.

Good point there erminiasanjose. i think the government should act first on the prevailing poverty and unemployment problem of the country.

As far as I know this National ID system has been long proposed wayback during the Ramos administration. I think it has both good and bad side of things to have that. Uniform ID would mean lesser IDs to bring when you want to apply for something. I think if you are not a criminal or terrorist you really will not worry about having one ID to identify you. For me if the government can afford to give every Filipino citizens then fine with me. I am a good citizen and I do not mind if I will be given an ID to identify me I have not done any wrong with them and they should know that.

with that idea, it's good to have that kind of id coz it's easy for us to have transactions with different companies, also we dont need to have different kinds of id's..but on the other hand, it would be scary because it can be possible for the terrorists to get all of the informations on the id...but what they wanted to do (the gov't) is that they only put limited information on the id so that its not that delicate..

this is really a scary idea. imagine, with just a snap of a finger, a high ranking official can get important information about you. it's like you have no privacy anymore. it's like living with an identifying bar code or living in big brother's house. what if the wrong people in government use this system in the wrong way like tracking and eradicating activists and journalists in a more effective way? it's simply dangerous. it would be a good idea though if we can be assured in some way that IDs will only be used for what they are intended for. in the Philippines i doubt that the people behind this idea have purely good intentions for it.

Others call this as "anti-people" policy. It will worsen the human rights violation in the country. Let's hope that the president make a thorough study on this before she approves for implementation. Thank you for sharing your point of view JanMags.

I am totally against the i.d. system, they will use it to hunt and track political enemies of the government.Maybe it's a good idea, but if they use it to plant evidences and leads to a peaceful citizen but vocal in criticizing the government, then it is frightening. You see Erap is sentenced guilty by the sandigangbayan with proof from the mouth of the accuser,no documentary evidence,no circumstantial evidence, what more if you are a plain citizen of this country.

On the brighter side, it would let them know all the citizens and they can reach out to those who are really in need. But on the bad light, your privacy can be shaken up. You might not know that police will just come to your house for an investigation. You can't hide.

If it is true that the AFP says that ID system will help track down the terrorist, then they do not know ehat they are talking about. The ID system is good for the people. If you have a national ID there is a sense of belonging to a country. there are many uses to ease the life of the Filipino and last should be to track down terrorist. These army men should stop talking else their insensitivity to the common tao will surface and it is not good for the people. A unified ID will sure ease the processes that a filipino goes through ( including red tape) in transacting business with government agencies. only those who have a hidden agenda will disagree with a national ID...
