How many of you love to eat dishes, snacks and other food preparations made with Potato. Though, it only contains startch, yet I find that potato is everyone's favourite. Even I am very found of dishes made with potato since my childhood. I love all the food preparations and snacks which are made with potato like finger chips and rolls etc. Kids love potatos, I find they settle for any dish in which potato is used, otherwise they make lot of excuses to consume other dishes or say cooked vegetables or pulses.
Your choice please and your views on a universal vegetable Potato.
Thanks in advance.

I just love potatoes. I love it mostly as french fries, specially the KFC ones. Otherwise I boil it and treat it with fresh lime juice, sprouted chana, cucumber juliens, salt and parsley chopped finely. This we call 'aloo kabli'. It tastes awesome! Then, I like the big soft aloos of the biriyani which my mom prepares. its boiled yet has a distinctive taste of the spices that I love biriyani for.
Deepak, as you have said, even I feel that potatoes are like the spine of any dish. It gives a structure an consistency to the food and for the potato lovers it gets us going, no matter what.
*giggles*

It's not aloo biryani, It's actually boiled potato in biriyani, which has the flavor of the biryani. I just love it!

Potato was never my favourite and my mother hardly made it. But potato is my husband's favourite and so I make it regularly now and I see that my son and I now enjoy having potatoes regularly. I also use potato to make veg burgers and find that it's easy to mix all the vegetables with the potatoes (that help in the binding) and my son doesn't know that he's getting all his veggies at one shot.

My whole family loves potaos. From the chips to hashbrowns. I think the all time dinner favorite is the old stand-by, mashed potatos. I make them with sour cream and cheddar cheese. Sometimes I throw in a little bit of bacon if I have it in the house.

I do not love potato, I use it as one of the vegetables. I do not take boiled potatoes as it is. It is used in curry, sambar. There is another useful dish that can be made is making a sagoo for puris or chapathis. It is better to use potatoes in limited quantity as it is a gas agent.

I absolutely love potato salad!! It's one of my favorite salads ever. I don't eat salad much, but if its potato then I don't hesitate to ask for one. hehe.
Anyway, they say potato is too much fattening but I love it in steaks too, I guess it's one food I can never resist...

I like potatoes, but other than french fries and potato chips my children don't care for them very much at all.
My husband is a mashed potato lover. He likes to mix corn with it.
I used to hate mashed potatoes as a child. I like them ok now, but I prefer baked potatoes or fried potatoes.
Sweet potatoes are my favorite though!
We eat more rice in our house than potatoes.

Hi deepak, so you are also potato lover like me and my family......lol. I think potato is one vegetable which is liked by all, even children like to eat this compared to other vegetables which they don't even want to look at. Also it is very helpful to make quick snacks, if some unexpected guests arrive or even when you sometimes feel like making something spicy (chatpata)...... I like to make dry potatoes with jeera, and to eat it with puri, WE make such potatoes almost every week as all like it.
Yeah but we have to check the quantity of potatoes we consume as it does make you fat......lol, yeah we should have control on our tongue and limit on our consumption.....My children are crazy about french fries and I cannot stop them as they don't eat anything else when it come to vegetables. Both of them are still thin and don't have any extra weight so I don't mind. If someone in the family has extra weight it is me and only me....lol But still ,overall I am in favour of potatoes. Have a nice day......:))

I like potatoes, but I think I am more of a rice person :) Hubby however loves potatoes with everything.
I enjoy preparing potatoes in many different ways from fried, to sauteed, mashed, scalloped or even just boiled. It is true that they go well with about everything but as you say, they are basically just starch.
I used to not pay much attention to that small detail, but lately I try to balance them a bit more. Less potatoes and more vegetable so I can still enjoy them but in moderation.

Hey dpk my friend! I love potatos and just to let you know - they're not 'just starch'.
First, carbohydrates are great energy givers. Especially because they're a complex - not a simple carb.
Think the bananna takes the prize for potassium - think again!
Potatos have more potassium then that bananna snack!
Sweet potatos are high in vitamin A and other potatos high in - can you guess? - vitamin C - you know the great vitamin for bolstering the immune system!
Potatos also contain B6 which is a great asset to the body's energy metabolism. Its also good for the immune, cardiovascular, and central nervous system. Its also good for skin and hair! And can aid with PMS - depression, tenderness in the chest area, and bloating.
Packed with:
Zinc
Iron
Magnesium
Folate
Fat and cholesterol free and low in sodium - until you add the table salt!
Make sure to eat them WITH the skin to reap the most benefits and add fiber!

I just told my boyfriend 2 days ago, if I were stranded on an island and could only have one food, I would choose the potato! I LOVE them, raw, cooked, fried, baked, scalloped. As a little girl, I got car sick, my parents would slice a raw potato and a bit of salt and that would always make my stomach feel better.
