What compeles children of the toddler years to shove things up there noses? My daughter of 2 And 1/2 years has shoved 3 things up her nose so far...Peas, crayons, bolgna, oh i'm sorry 4 things cause she had a bread stick up there a few weeks ago. We keep telling her she will hurt herself but she doesn't get it, but this is the child that never listens to us is continually on time out and is a very over active child, constantly has to be given something to do. My husband has to dig the things out with tweezers because she really shoves them up there. LAst night it was the bolgna...we got one peice out and said there is that better. She said yes then 5 min later i could hear something in her nose again...it was another peice....She had put 2 pieces up there and we couldn't even see it the first time thats how far up it was...I can see her going to the hospital for something or another as she gets older. I keep telling my husband that she will be the one who breaks her arm or leg doing something she isn't suppose to.

I can't say that I understand why children do these things. When I was a child, I gave the little neighbor girl some redhots candy... and she (age 3) went straight home and stuck them up her nose. Of course, they burned, and she cried, and her mother had to take her to the hospital to have them removed... and I got in trouble for giving the candies to her... as if I should have known she'd stick them up her nose. I guess it is a rather popular thing for some kids to do, and even after all these years, no one has come up with a good reason why. :)

haha, I know its not funny. But my little sister use to put crayons and beans up her nose. We had to got to the emergancy room for that bean. My sister grew out of it eventually, well she did put spegetti up her nose the other day, she's 26. LOL I think your daughter is just descovering her nose. Keep telling her no and maby one day when she's alittle older then she might listen. Handg in there I know its frustrating.

My sister wasn't an over active child who got into scrapes...but she still would shove things up her nose. I remember one time it was the rubber tip of a pencil and we couldn't get it out...not with a tweezer or anything...and we had to take her to the hospital where they took it out with a wire (don't ask me how...I didn't really see it).
Recently a neighbour's daughter put something up her nose(I don't remember what) and then we smoked some chilli in the kitchen and got her to sneeze it out.
Kids,kids,kids!!!!

I have no idea what so ever what compells a kid to stuff things up their nose or in their ears. I never did it as a child and my daughter has never done it. But..I remember way back when I was a kid, my little brother used to do it all the time. There was one time my mom had to take him to the family doctor and I had to go along. I remember my mom got so mad at him because after what seemed like an eternity of screaming in the doctor's office they finally pulled out a Cocoa Puff. He wasn't allowed to have that cereal, which was his favorite, and had to eat shredded wheat for quite a while, haha!~D

Hehehe,my daughter shoved macaroni and mashed potatoes up there, but she only did it once because i made her cry by scaring her from not doing it,in a good way though:)I really, really do not know why they do this at all, dont be surprised if she puts something in her ear also, this is much worse.Usily my daugter would get food out of her nose, hehe, one time she was eating spaghetti and sneezed and out cam a long piece of spaghetti hanging in there.I laughed so hard and then the bad part came when i had to pull it out,i did not like that and neither did she.:(They are so inquisitive at this age,i think in a way she wants to know if it fits and also do you laugh a tiny bit when you "see" her do it?If so,this could be encouraging her on by her thinking,im funny. We stopped laughing at my daughter when she did stuff that she thought was funny but really wasnt and she stopped shortly afterwards and onto something else more experimenting, haha.
Peanutjar:)Good luck at figuring out why she does it,im stumped.

Oh wow bologna. I have never seen or heard a child doing something like that. And with how far the second peice was that was up the nose I can totally see you guys heading for a trip to the emergency room. I never had a prob with my girls putting things up their nose so I don't know what to tell you. With her only being 2.5 years old she is going to keep on doing it till you do make a visit to the emergency room. Good luck to you.

I know isn't it crazy, my first never did things like that. She was a very well behaved child...my kids are like peas and carrots...very very different....and she is very smart so i am surprised she hasn't learned that it hurts...you would think something like that would hurt....oh well as long as she doesn't seriously hurt herself we will be ok...thanks for the response
