I went to a walk in beauty salon to get my hair cut today
and I signed in and a woman from behind the counter came up to me. She asked me what I would like done and I said a wash cut and blow dry.
She told me it would be about a 40 minute wait so I said ok I'll go shop next door and I'll be back.
I then asked her how much it would be and she said "well it depends on your hair if its curly or long then it will be about 40 dollars."
I said that that should not matter that all's I need is a wash cut and blow dry and the sign says $14.95 and up for that.
She again told me if it's curly or long it is more.
My hair was pulled back in a pony tail. Therefore it looks longer than it actually is. Besides I only wanted about a quarter of an inch taken off!
I did not see her perspective in assessing the charges.
Needless to say I got mad about the whole situation and said never mind then.
Better off this way because if I had let her cut my hair she probably would of given me a bad haircut!
Do you trust just anyone with your hair?
I think I will stick to my hairdresser of choice even if I have to wait for her to fit me in.
What do you do?

I try to get my hair cut at the same place. They have been pretty good so far. Two times I've gone to other places as they were closer and regreted the decision as they really didn't do very good jobs on my hair. I think it's best to stick with what you know well and trust.

Yes I agree when you find someone you like to do your hair you should stick with them even if there is a wait.

i used to have real long hair.... down to my butt when it was braided. Then I had surgery and a whole lot of my hair was scalp length so I now have short hair. After my surgery, I found an angel of a hairdresser who would wash my hair to get the blood out and help me feel better, she did this multiple times and refused to accept money for this. She then started cutting my hair and did a great job.
She moved, now I go wherever knowing that hair grows back in a few weeks anyhow.

I know exactly what you mean. I have not had a good hair cut in ages. They never give me the style I asked for and they charge outragious and expect a tip from me. I started trimming my own hair but really want it to grow out some. I am going to go with my daughter next month and see how it goes. I know I won't be happy at all with the way they will do my hair. It drives me nuts. I have walked out crying several times from different places because they messed my hair up or took too much off the length.

I don't really trust anyone to do my hair. I've had it messed up a few times. I usually cut my own hair. Least if I screw it up, it's my own fault.

No way. Both my husband and myself have gotten bad cuts that way. So for the 3 of us my daughter included it's one of 2 people. Period. If they aren't there it's no go.That's why we call ahead first. Since we have known them for a while now we don't get that kind of run around. Probably a good thing you left.

If she was working in the hair salon, she knew about hair. You have to take a beauty course in order to work in a salon and the question she asked was normal. Each hair style is different. She would have had to remove the elastic because if she did not, your hair would be cut uneven. I doubt she would have given you a bad haircut. Oh the sign, it says and UP, not just $14.95.

LOL - no one but me has cut my hair in almost 30 years. Back in the 70s I paid $40 for cut and perm which doesn't seem like much now but was a lot back then and the perm feel in 2 days and one side was over an inch longer than the other side. I figured if a professional was going to do that bad a job I could do it myself for nothing - ok, I pay $7 for a perm kit and do that myself. I've had good ones and bad ones and done good cuts and bad cuts but sure have saved a ton of money over the years - I've also done my kids, friends, and grandkids hair over the years.

I am a long hair person and will not allow my hair to be cut above the waist. I hear too many horror stories about people either having their hair cut too short or otherwise "messed up" and therefore have resorted to trimming it myself, which really isn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Plus, it saves me money, so I'm perfectly fine doing it that way. I have known a lot of people who swear by having a hair salon nearby, but not me... At least if I mess up my own hair, I don't have to hold a lifelong grudge against another person! =)

I used to have one particular hairdresser at a shop to take care of all my hair needs. When I made an appt. and she couldn't fit me in, I was always asked if I would like one of the other
girls, but I just preferred her.
Now that my hair is longer and I am trying to grow it out long, I can trim my own hair.
But, no, I will not just trust and shop or hairdresser to cut my hair.
I have had too many bad haircuts that way.
I think if you found someone that you like, then she is probably worth the wait.

I have a really hard time finding a good stylist and when I finally do, I stick with them. I won't let anyone who isn't licensed even touch my hair anymore.
Years ago when we did foster kids one of the kids tried to put highlights in my hair and ended up frying it off completely...I had to be shaved. Another time he tried to cut it telling me that it wouldn't be too short...it was the shortest buzz cut I've ever seen...shorter than the military cuts.
Now, it's simply by professionals only and if they screw up I don't go back.

I have a friend who is a hair dresser who I let cut my hair, but I wouldn't trust just anyone. I don't blame you for not wanting someone you just had a minor argument with cut your hair lol.
I have very long hair and people seem to like to touch it, it makes me uncomfortable and I wish they wouldn't, when I had short hair people didn't.

As far as if I trust anyone with touching my hair- the answer to that is simple- no. For someone reason, I find myself to be quite picky when it comes to the treatment of my hair. If it is not cut almost exactly how I like, then I will be sure to let the person know who cut my hair. Even though I am a dude, I suppose that I should not be as picky about it as I am.

I haven't been to a hairdressers for aaaages. The main reason I stopped going was because it cost me £30-£50 to have a trim even though I'd have to stand as my hair is down to the small of my back.
My friend trims it for me every now and then which is a lot cheaper as I just buy her a drink for it.
It's a shame because I really did like going to a 'proper' place and having my hair fussed over but it was becoming too expensive.
