As a follow up to my recent discussion entitled "A Possible Break Through Therapy" Here is the link to that discussion:

I would like to share this Blog that I receive daily... This one just came in today and really pin points the positives and negatives of Chelation therapy
http://www.essential-guide-to-autism.com/blog/2008/01/10/a-look-at-both-sides-of-the-chelation-and-autism-debate/
Please read the article and give me your thoughts.
It looks like to me as if a lot of parents have actually chosen to do this?
Would you do this for your child if you thought it would help?
Do you think the risks outweigh the benefits?
I certainly have my mind made up now...My son will never receive this therapy!!! Far too risky in my opinion!
Let me know what you think about this article or the treatment if it actually helped your child or someone you know or if it had an adverse affect...Share any and all thoughts and stories here!
For those of us who are advocating...
Keep fighting the fight!
Thanks so much for your responses here :)

I think chelation therapy can be useful in removing heavy metal toxins from your system. However, there are health risks, from minor to severe, and the chelating agent should be administered by a proffesional. The best use is in the case of severe heavy metal poisoning, such as acute mercury poisoning. In such a case, chelating therapy is worth the risk, when administered by a profesional. What you have to be carefull of is using chelating therapy using over the counter products, because you think you have too much heavy metals in your system. If the level of metals is confirmed to be of threat, then I wouldl not take the risk using these over the counter products.

I would say that you have to talk to your doctor first and to the medical community and not rely on what a blog site says. I found this site written by a phd
http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/chelation.html and this
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4493 show the dangers of this theory and I would look at it more than on a site written by non professionals.
You can also try this site http://library.thinkquest.org/CR0213520/are_there_any_cures_for_autism.htm

So it seems that B6 might help.

B6 sounds like a good idea as does fish oil which I may also implement this year along with a special diet.
Thanks again

Sweetheart that is decidedly unsettling! I know that in order to find the cause and treatment for any ailment or condition they are going to have to use experimental treatment but how can ANYONE justify passing this off as a treatment for autistic children without some kind of study and proof? Espescially when it seems so dangerous - that is staggering. I am so glad that you did your research sweetheart but then we know you well enough to know that you always will! xxx

I certainly do not want to do anything that would endanger my son in any way...It is just not worth the risk!!
