Im a new mother and still learning this parenting thing. I am curious to know how old should a baby be before they start teething and what can I do about it?

Not sure about the age exactly. It's been over 9 years lol. Best thing to do is ask your baby's Doc. They will drool alot, cry, possible fever and runny nose, hard gums, Possibly tummy problems, Teething rings are good as well as frozen waffles for baby to suck on. Medications should be reccomended by the Doc. I heard they know have a tablet of some kind to help teething pain.

My little brother is 7 months old and now has several teeth and more coming...it excites him as much as it hurts him, he's a sweetie...yeah, babies cry and scream when teething AHHHH! Okay, but here is what you can do, as you ask...relax yourself. Your baby is going to be stressed out and it is going to stress you out if you aren't prepared or have a way to relax...people mentioned gels and such and there are teething toys, but make sure you yourself doesn't go crazy so you can help calm the baby...heh have fun

My daughter started teething at 4 months but didn't actually cut a tooth until she was 5 months and she didn't complaint too much with it to begin with. but as the larger teeth started coming down thats when she really suffered bless her. We used the gel, calpol and the herbal powder that dissolves in her mouth. She also would chew on absolutely everything and anything. She didn't seem to care whether the objects were hot or cold though - she just chewed!! Good luck!

Everything everyone else said about teething signs seem about right! I had two kinda late teethers. Both my kids didn't pop a tooth til around 8 - 9 months. Although teething itself can last for months, the worst part is right before that little jagged edge punches through their gums. Both mykids weren't really affected by teething. I used the cool wash cloth and our Ped. told us a dose of tylenol would do wonders especially at night!

My baby boy started teething at 11 months. And he still does not have all his teeth. The first teeth which came out did not seem to make him particularly suffer but he is now complaining when he eats that his teeth "hurt". He is also always chewing on something (even more than when he was a little baby). What I do when he seems to have toothaches is I put some gel (which I bought at a pharmacy) on his gums and this seems to soothe him a bit. I have also heard of people making their baby wear an amber neacklace. It is apparently relieving pain when the baby develops his/her first teeth. I have never tried it so I cannot tell you if it really works. But I may try it for my next baby.

Awww teething is hard work. Ya like someone said I think they can start as early as 4 months, but dont panic if your little one doesnt start until much later, thats normal too. My older son did not start teething until he was almost 1 and my little guy started at 9 months. A low-grade fever is normal to go along with teething, as is a diaper rash. I have heard the Hyland teething tablets work well, bought at Walmart and such. My boy really enjoys chewing on a wet washcloth that has been frozen. He also enjoys chewing on un-opened popsicles, the kind in the clear plastic sleeves. I hope your little one has an easy time teething. Oh and this has nothing to do with teething but is something I wish someone had told me with my first child. If your baby has a high fever that doesnt seem to want to go down..its perfectly safe to overlap both Tylenol and Motrin, it will usually break the fever fast. I have always found that Motrin works much better on fevers but on a tough fever use both together.

I think they say 4 to 6 months usually. But I was a late teether, and so was my son. My daughter is 5 months and I havent noticed any bumps on her gums yet... So she may be a late teether as well. They usually get a bit cranky and you'll notice the baby gumming things more or pulling on their ears sometimes. My son never gave me alot of trouble, but occasionaly I could tell they were bothering him, so I used the homeopathic teething pills. Orajel never seemed to help him, and I try to stick with more natural things. Also, letting the baby gnaw on your finger or a cool teething ring sometimes help relieve the pressure for them too.

Teething can start as early as 4 mos. Drooling, and chewing on things are a good indication, as well as cranky and low fever. I used to give my son a wet washcloth, that I had stuck in the freezer for a while. He loved it. Orajel works well, but we used a homeopathic one. It's natural, and it's a instant dissolving pill. It has chamomile and some others, to help with pain and crankiness. I highly recommend it. I usually found it in the vitamin aisle.

I used the homeopathic pills too, and they worked like a charm for my daughter. I would also use Baby Tylenol is she was running a fever.

my first started teething at 3 months. I suggest those teething toys that go in the freezer, and once they get a little older frozen waffles work great, you just have to watch them so the pieces dont fall in their mouth. You can tell if they're teething because they drool a lot! and chew on everything. Orajel works well too, the stuff for infants/

I'm fairly new to mothering as well - my daughter started teething at 4 months but her 1st tooth didn't come through until 8 months - her 2nd tooth came through just 1 week later. I have found that infant pain relief drops (here it's infants panadol) can be VERY helpful, i also tried a teething ring - although my little one preferred it being room temperature not cooled - teething gel will also help! I also found that baby biscuit sticks kept her mind off of things so you can try quite a few different things, you'll know which one works best when you try them! Good Luck!
