I was wondering what happens if there are just two people, we are retired and sometimes I want to cook Chinese, but it seems most of the recipes are for a family of four. I prefer the Cantonese style of cooking, and we have only one wok a large one. Would it be better to maybe get a smaller wok and use the large one and how many servings would you do for two people?

The book I got for the Electric wok, gave me recipes for 4 to 8 people each. But they assumed that was the only dish plus rice for the meal-like we eat. Chinese make four to six dishes for four to six people, and those dishes are not for 4 to 6 each. So if I cooked the Chinese way, I would be cooking for 18 to 20 people, instead of thr 4 to 6 so the dishes would have to be quartered or something like that.

2.Use 3 teaspoon plant oil on pan to make oil hot, then scrambled eggs well, and take eggs out of pan be ready to next step.
3.Use 2 teaspoon oil too, when it hot begin to cook tomatoes for 1 minute, and then add the eggs, cooking for 2 minutes, till tomato issue juice abundant.
4.Add salt,chicken powder,sugar.
That's all.In chinese is called ??????,you can eat it with cooked rice,or mix round rice and ?????? together,it taste good.

It sounds like Italian Chinese. Marco Polo's favorite recipe?

I have to cut the recipes in one quarters if I want to eat real Chinese, that is for us, it would be two dishes plus the rice.

I don't have any other suggestions but to cut the recipe in half, but I wouldn't do that myself because my husband and I love left over chinese food. :)

That would be IF we were cooking western style. But Chinese is different. When four people go to a Chinese meal, they order four dishes plus rice that goes in the center and they take from those four dishes. That makes it different. Also you have to eat the leftovers the next day. I want it to be fresh and have no leftovers.

When we retired I put my wok into storage and haven't missed it yet. Sometimes I use those little instant box mixes from the dollar stores for a base and instead of "cooking" them as directed just add fresh vegetable, more meat and already cooked rice or noodles. Of course, we have a nice little food court style Chinese lunch place that we like a lot and sometimes we just swing by their for a box of takeout and to that I would also add extra rice or noodles and more fresh veggies to make it go further, be healthier, and of course cut down the salt.

I think you can just use the big wok and just make less. I know it is hard to cook just for two, there is only me and my hubby, but I always end up making more than I need to. So I just pack some in a lunch for him to take to work the next day, and sometimes the day after that. I see the two of you are retired so that wouldn't be an option other than you can have left overs for lunch the next day, at home. Or do you have children that live close by that you can give them some? Or is their a soup kitchen close to your home that you can donate the leftovers to? If not, you will have to learn to cook less, or put up with having leftovers. Good luck to you, my friend.
