lol, well I used to live next to train tracks growing up, and when I say next to I mean close enough that our house shook when it went by, so the loud noise is kind of a comfort. Plus you have to realize that thunder can't hurt you it's just a noise. Now lightning...just stay in doors and you should be alright...and stay away from electronics, my mom used to yell at me when I would stand and stare out the window during a storm I always thought the lightning was pretty. She however somehow thought I would be zapped.

I love thunderstorms. I like to watch the lightning.Do you have cable? If so, the best thing is to find a comedy and watch it until the storm passes.

My daughter and I are both afraid of loud thunder although she is also afraid of lightning. My daughter has a bunk bed where the bottom bunk faces the opposite of top bunk. She will sleep under the top bunk with a blanket over it hanging down as to block out all light cept her lil nightlight that she will plug in underneath to read or sleep with. As for the thunder, I'll put her radio next to her nightlight so she can adjust the volume to drown out the lightning. Sometimes we'll really go all out and I'll sleep with her in our decked out fort.

My beautiful White Ash. - Lightning isn't picky where it strikes.
Opps, forgot to mention that I love a good light show during a storm. A year ago this past fall we had a severe storm with a drowning rain, thunder, lightning and hail. I was on the route at the time and just parked my car while it passed thru. Got home and decided to go round back to see how many branches came down. What I saw chilled me to the bone. We HAD a beautiful tall white ash out back. One of the healthiest of the trees in our yard. Lightning struck it during the storm right where the first branch meets the trunk and split that trunk all the way INTO the ground, sprewing bark over 20' away. I was finding bark from the tree in the front yard and clear down to the creek. When we were cutting it up into logs, the split part was actually split multiple ways and fell apart as we were cutting. You can actually see the split in the pic. My neighbors were kind enough to come over that night and cut it down for me.

Oh I love thunderstorms :) Sorry that you are afraid of them... there are alot of people who are!! I would gladly have that storm here... we had a little bit of thunder (like 2 or 3 rolls of it) this afternoon but it has cooled right down now so there would not be any storms tonight, but I do love them.... I love watching the lightning - especially at night when it lights up the sky and / or even the house....

As a small wolfie cub I used to be petrified of thunder and lightening, apparently it's a well common phobia called brontophobia, there you learn something new every day! I used to run and hide in my parents room and sleep on the floor with my stuffed cub and blanket and pillow! I used to make my dad promise me it wouldn't thunder, I would wait till one flash then run into my parents before the next flash! Even as an adult I will hide under the covers, big softie I know, but I can never sleep once I hear the first rumble, because I am forever waiting for the flashes and claps and I'm soooo warm from being under the covers that I can't sleep anyhow so I just lie there restless!

I actually enjoy listening to thunder and seeing the flashes from the lightning as long as I'm inside. Often I go to sleep with that sound. I specially like to be snuggly in bed, warm as a toast and listening to the storm outside. I don't like to be outside when there is a storm, when there's a big one and it's really close.

Nope cybersister, not afraid of thunder or lightening at all but then I'm a tad weird. One of the few positive things my folks taught me as a girl was never to be afraid of storms, in fact whenever there'd be a horrific storm my mother would have me sit on her lap on one of the chairs in the kitchen and we'd watch the storm..think my mother used to tell me it was God bowling..LOL. Now my one kitty, Kissy is different..even when its just a pitter patter of rain she high tails it under my bed and won't come out until it's over

I really hate thunder and lightning storms. I turn everthing off in the house, don't run water, don't talk on the phone or go near windows. I just sit in a safe place in the house and wait it out. I also never have my bed by the window. One time I was forced to have my bed by the window, and a storm started and it was really bad, and I swear I thought a bolt of lightning shot over my head. I went out and slept on my loveseat that night. My daughter loves having her bed by the window and is not afraid of storms. She however now blames me for making my 3 grandkids afraid of storms.

Hello dear TerryZ. Like you, I am also afraid of loud thunder and lighting. They are so scary. When it is this kind of weather, I would stay inside and do not want to step out unless I have to. It is so dangerous. When I was a small kid, I was extremely afraid of the roaring sound of thunder and lighting and would hide myself under the table without daring to come out. Lol. So you are not alone there, my dear friend.

Hi There! Actually, I love the sounds and sights of thunder and lightning. There is nothing better than a good old fashioned thunderstorm. It is a little annoying if you are trying to sleep, but I do love to watch it. cheers,

I usually wake up, but only because we've got 2 100 lb labs in the bed with us, terrified of the noise. I usually wake up when it starts thundering, but we've got a porch right outside our bedroom and that porch has a metal roof. It sounds heavenly when rain hits it. That sweet sound puts me right back to sleep.

Hello TerryZ. I'm sorry that the storm frightened you this morning. I love to listen to the thunderstorms and watch the lightening. I find them sort of comforting for some reason. They are so fasinating too. I can sympathize with you though being frightened. My grandkids were terribly frightenend when they were little. they would come and crawl in bed with me. They have gotten over the fear and are pretty well grown. I do miss haveing them come crawl in bed and snuggling.

I used to be very afraid of storms! As a child, I would get so scared I would make myself sick. Now, they don't bother me as much. Now a tornado or a hurricane would really frighten me and I have never witnessed either one! I've heard that a lot of places had some really terrible storms this morning. Many homes, etc were destroyed. I hope there weren't too many fatalities.

I guess we had at least one really bad clap of thunder this morning. MIL said her first thought was tornado because it rumbled for so long and was so loud, she said it was just like a freight train and since she grew up in Texas she thought tornado even though we don't really get big tornados here and only occassional small ones. Anyway, I slept right through it. The only time thunder and lightning scare me is if I'm out on the road in it. I know they claim cars are safe because of the tires but I had a bad scare once and that was more than enough for me. I was leaving a friend's house after a bible study meeting and had a few of the kids in the van with me when lightning struck the driveway right in front of us. All we saw was a huge flash of blue that lit up the whole van and made my radio go all statcky and loud for a minute. Our ears were ringing and everything but we didn't feel anything else other than being scared.
