Hi or hello is most common in home country. Hiya, how do you do or how are you are quite popular ways to greet someone. Also the time of day can be mentioned, like good morning, good afternoon and good evening. In Australia some people say g' day mate, hoowya goin' that means good day friend, how are you. I met a foreign visitor there that had difficulty recognizing this friendly way of saying hello.

Some oter greetings are : Sup? Howdy? Good day? and there are probably a number of other greetings. I personally just keep it simple and say "hi". It simple and most likely you will get the same greeting back.
