When I was five, in K-5, as we called it, I wore a training bra. My mom had the worst time with me because I'd forget to wear it, or I'd sleep with it on. Hey, I was five! I wasn't a fat child at all, I just matured fast. When I was 10 I was mistaken for the teacher when my class was on a field trip. And I was always so tall. I'm 6 feet, although I claim 5'11 3/4 to be exact. So in first grade I wore a regular bra. What fun, the boys would grab the straps, and then let them fly, like suspenders. Hurt like the dickens! So when did you start wearing a bra, and did you have any issues with it? Forget to take it off? Bra straps slide down and everyone notice?

I am trying to remember, I think I was nine. I recall being terribly embarrased when the neighbor woman told my mother that I really needed to start wearing a bra.

Did the neighbor say that in front of you? That's horribly rude!

I knew some girls that matured that early, and I felt pretty bad for them. I was probably 9 or so when I started wearing a bra, but what was funny for me was that my body didn't change much between then and when I was 18, when I suddenly got another growth spurt. I was being mistaken for a teenager already, between the way I dressed and acted, having older friends, and having some curves. I think the biggest problem I had with bras was sliding straps, and bras that just didn't cut it for the kind of activities I enjoyed, or didn't work right with my clothes. I came to have a major love of bra tops, because then I didn't have to worry about an extra piece of clothing but still had support. No one ever snapped my bra straps at school, but then I was feared and hated for various reasons, and thus wasn't to be messed with.

I wear a 38 dd and it is really hard to find cute bras. It wasn't until my twenties that they got this big and I think that they make me look even fatter than I am!

You started wearing a bra at five years old? You poor thing you. I do not remember at what age I started to wear a bra, but I have always hated them. At some point, they got real big. I am also 6ft, 5/11 and 4 quarters, he, he.

That is very mild compared to what I heard. I was called, Big Bird, Jolly Green Giant, Too Tall Jones, and Amazon. Or they would say, How's the weather up there?

Oh boy Ambie I really feel for you. I can only imagine the horrible teasing you must have gotten as a kid, cause let's face it, kids can be downright nasty and mean at times. And that sure wasn't nice of those boys pulling on your straps like that I was the complete opposite I developed rather late and I don't think I was wearing a bra (any kind) until I was almost ready to go into high school and I never exactly developed big time..I've always remained rather small..LOL..In fact most of the bras I still get today could almost be considered exaggerated training bras, as I never cared for underwire or heavily padded types...more like the sports bra type which I just find more comfortable

Pye, I think whatever you looked like, big boobs or not, you were one powerful looking girl. If I had known you needed boobs though, I would have given you mine, hee hee. Or better yet my sister's. She NEEDS to get rid of some those DDS. : )

She does, but she would never have surgery for it. She's afraid of stuff like that. I guess I'm so used to hospitals it just wouldn't bother me. : ) Besides, her husband is kind of fond of her 'assets.' : )

Hehe,i did not have any when the other girls nmy age did so i saved money on them.I sprouted my onions later then them, which were tiny but since i had my daughter they became bigger,i lost some but have biggies now and am so in love with them!LOLI was teased sooo much in school for not being big enough to wear a training bra even. Now look at me,i can wear whatever kind of pretty one i like and they have them in my size!!I believe i was 12 or 13 when i wore one and put padding in them slowly so no one would notice the difference until they decided to sprout.I had friend who was like you,i was envious of her!!lol.Nice big ones. Well since I was a chunky child yes, I had to wear a bra. I was 6-7 when I first started wearing one. When I was 14 everyone thought I was about 18 or older. Probably how I ended up married at 16 to an older man of 28 years of age. I am of average height 5'6 although I have brothers who are 6'2 and 6'7. My little sister bless her is 6 now and she has been wearing training bras since she was 5 she is tall for her age she is like 4'11 in height but she is also big boned and chunky but she always had them even as a baby. My mom was big breated thankfully I didn't take after her there. at one time my mom wore a 54 E bra. But she lost 200 lbs and lost alot of that to so now she is 48 D. I had more family members pulling my bra straps then kids at school but it still hurt no matter who does it right? I am hoping that she won't have to deal with rude kids and discusting comments.

I hope her self-esteem is stable. Kids are awful. A kid once asked if he could place his drink on my sister's 'shelf'. If she lost weight she'd go from a DD to a D, which would be better, but still hard. I really don't understand myself, I guess it was genetics. I was thin until about 14 and then started getting chunky too. I wore a C cup when I got to the age of 10 (also the year I recieved the fun period), and I'm still a C cup. So whatever I have, it came early, LOL. My sister claims to be 5'6, but she's more like 5'5. I think it is so much harder to be shorter and and curvier. It's like Dolly Parton, she had to get a tiny waist for anyone to realize she was pretty thin! Oh, and wow, 6'2 and 6'7? Where were they when I was in college? lol

Training bra - A very plain training bra.
My grandmother decided I should have one when I started 7th grade, 11 years old. I didn't really need it though. It was basically half an undershirt with a rose in the middle. I didn't really need one until sophomore year, 14 years old. I can still get away without wearing one unless it is cold or the shirt is too tight. I have just gotten in the habit of wearing one. I feel under-dressed without one.

At least it will help our chests from sagging later! My grandmother and sister wear a DD, and my grandma has told my sister she will sag worse when she gets older because her chest is so big. My sister DID NOT like hearing that. Not that it has to be true either.

I started wearing a training bra in 6th grade; not because I really need one (heck, I barely need one now!), but because that was the year we started having to change in the locker room for gym class, so pretty much all the girls started wearing one, so they would have a bit more coverage and not be too self concious. After i got used to wearing one, I never had much trouble with them, the sliding straps seemed to happen to everyone (why did it take racer-back style bras so long to catch on, anyway?)so it wasn't much of an issue. though I've always been pretty small

i was like....11-12 when i started wearing a bra regularly. i HATED it. i felt like everyone could see the outline of it through my shirt and could feel it when they hugged me and stuff. boys really embarrassed me too with the popping of the straps. In the 7th grade, this boy wouldnt leave me and another girl alone and kept popping the straps HARD, so we were told by a teacher to tell the principle---a 60 something year old man..pretty humilating.

Good Morning Amber! I honestly can't remember when I first started wearing a bra but thankfully I didn't have too many problems when I did. I barely remember wearing a training bra but that was only for a short time before my mother got the "real thing" Ha! Ha! I'll have to admit that I have never been "blessed" except for after my kids were born when my milk came in. After those two times I went back to "normal" Ha! Ha! The truth is, I could go around my house or even go to town if I wanted to and not even wear a bra and people would probably never know the difference. I would never do that, of course, because that would be wrong, but I would be able to do that. I have the trouble with my bra straps sliding down though because I'm not big enough for my bras to fit correctly. It is a crying shame LOL!! I have wished that I could be maybe one size cup bigger. LOL Great discusison hon, talk to you soon! SheliaLee

Good morning to you as well! I've heard several experts say every woman needs to be professionally 'fitted' for a bra at leas once in her life. Apparently, most woman are not wearing the right size, kind, or shape. The problem is, those places are expensive! Sure I'll go, if those experts will pay for it. : )

Well, you are much younger than I, but I am 5'6 and was considered to be tall. In fact, when I was in sixth grade, I was so tall, that my sister when she went to pick up her son at school, she would see me walking with my class and can tell right where I was, a head above everyone.. So it was that sixth grade year that I got my first bra and I too was maturing faster than the others. I don't know if it was jealousy or just being hateful, but because I was bigger, some girls started a rumor that I was stuffing...

Girls can be really vicious! We should band together in school against the guys, not make enemies among the sisterhood.

Yeah, well not at my school. The high school years were pretty bad too. I remember one girl saying she was going to get this other girl into a bathroom and cut her long hair.. Fortunately it fell through, but that is what my school was like, everyone for him or her self..
