She loves her doggie

I don't know whether to put this discussion in people, dogs or Dr. Phil. This woman named Pam has a Pomeranian (sp?) named Pieboy. She thinks of Pieboy not as a dog, but as a child. She lavishes Pieboy with a wardrobe NO real little boy would stand for.
Anyhoo, this woman values her doggie more than her relationship with her boyfriend of six years. The boyfriend has had enough. Pieboy doesn't like him anyhow.
I think this is totally weird. if Pieboy wants to st retch out on her king-size bed, she sleeps on the floor so Pieboy has plenty of room -- LOL
She has another dog who's just a dog to her -- her other dog is Pieboy's pet.
She brushes Pieboy's teeth twice a day and spent $10,000 on -- would you believe braces???
To the extreme is an understatement I think. What do you all think?
Dr. Phil even asked her if she's ever been told she has a mental problem. I don't remember how she answered or if she answered that question. She seems real happy with her choice to lavish all her love on Pieboy.
Dr. Phil kept reminding her that Pieboy is a dog. She kept disagreeing, saying that he's her child.

I know of many people that treat their dogs like children they never had. I was accused of this at one time - not to this extent. My sister said she about had a stroke when I picked up our new puppy and took her outside when I never did anything remotely like that for my own children. Well, I don't know if she was right or wrong - this was when my kids were in their teens. But, I was probably a bit older, more patient and had just bought a new house with new carpet! That was 9 years ago and my kids "puppy" is showing signs of age. I just talked with my oldest son - now 24 - about their dog getting old. He wasn't that happy to hear it and was pretty much in denial, but she's having some health issues and it's come to the point where I need to decide exactly how much money I'm willing to spend on her. I know she's a memeber of the family and it's going to be hard, but I can't afford all that money to keep a DOG alive and happy. Some times I just hope she goes quietly in her sleep....

I saw that. She was insane! Did you see that dogs teeth? No wonder she has to chew the food for him because I think he had five teeth in his whole mouth. I think Dr.Phil just gave up in the end because she could not be helped. Just basically gave up and said what ever works for you lady because you're crazy.

oh dear.
I love dogs. I love dogs more than I love most people.
but if you don't treat them like a dog you do them a great disservice. they are not human and treating them like humans and expecting them to behave like humans will not make them happy.
we have to accept them as dogs, love them as dogs, and give them a lifestyle where they are able to be just that. a dog that is allowed to be a dog will be more happy than the most spoilt dog that is treated like a human. because dogs know how to be dogs. they don't know how to be human.
your dog will be happier if you give them a secure pack structure, with a confident pack leader.
a dominant dog is not happy. a dog does not want to rule your house. in the wild a top dog is a constantly insecure position. a lower ranking dog has a more comfortable life, even if they don't get to eat first. it has no pressure on it. it can get on with life without having the pressure of running the pack.
if you are not a secure and calm, confident pack leader, your dog will feel unstable. it will know that it's pack is unstable, and feel under pressure to step into the leadership role, to give the pack stability. and very few dogs are naturally inclined to be a pack leader.
so a dog that has to take charge of it's humans (because of it's humans failing to be a sufficient pack leader) is not a happy dog.
if you love your dogs then you don't let them rule you.

Pieboy ... what kind of name is that in the first place. I tivo'd the episode and fastforwarded through some of her idiotic rantings about it being her son. Though my favorite part was when she asked Dr. Phil what it was like when jordan was a baby and pee'd on his face. She was all kinds of ridiculous and didn't even give the poor dog a respectable name ... the poor pooch never stood a chance.
