I have to assume neither you nor the first respondent live in socal, let alone drive the 91 freeway! Not that the other freeways are good in comparison during rush hour. It's just that the 91 IS a rush hour from about 5 am til 10 pm. I'm surprised more people don't do this. If it were leagal, you could get where you want by bicycle on the freeway faster - and I'm not exaggerating. So, come. Visit beautiful, sunny southern California. And pick a destination that requires travel on one of our fine freeways - during rush hour.

I spent a good deal of time in San Diego. And I understand. Here in Missouri we have Highway 64/40 shut down now for 2 years starting the 1st week in January.During peak times, 6,200 vehicles per hour use Highway 40. So, when the highway shuts down, where will they go? Without overloading alternate routes, engineers estimate I-44 could handle an increase of 1,100 vehicles per hour, I-70 could take on 600, Page Avenue 700, Olive Boulevard 600, Manchester 500, and Lindbergh 800 more vehicles per hour. And MoDOT believes the rest will be handled by a traffic volume reduction from people who work from home, carpool or use mass transit. It's just a nightmare. I think traffic is bad almost anywhere.

That's a traffic engineer for ya. The other 2100 commuters will "just work from home." Yeah, right. If they are in my line of work, it would be a great idea, if only it weren't against the law, didn't require a business license, waste oil and coolant permits and storage facilities, permits for hoists and air compressors and yak yak yak. Wouldn't be nice if they showed the people the respect they deserve and just simply stated: "Yeah. For the next 2 years you're vucked!"?

that's been going on for ages....i don't get it. the traffic isn't really that bad. It's not even worth the effort of getting the dummy.
