Do you have life insurance? Have you given it any thought if you don't?

Here I am 60 years old and I don't have any life insurance! I'm ashamed of myself for letting such an important thing go like this and since my mom passed away last week I'm now shopping for it! Better late than never right? My problem is that I'm on Social Security and it's so expensive. I don't want to get the small $2,00 policy because that won't even make a dent in the cost that my kids will have when I'm gone. In my search this morning I found one with $10,000 coverage that I might be able to afford if I cut down on things like food ...lol! but I don't even have the first months payment right now so I'm going to have to wait until my next check on the 3rd of February to get it. I've waited this long so I figure that's ok!

I'm the same way, know I should have it and did at one time but like you said the cost just doesn't seem to fit in my budget. My only saving grace is I don't have any bills to leave behind when I go and as a vet I will at least get buried even if nothing fancy. I just don't plan on dieing when it comes right down to it.
Why do they call it 'life insurance' anyway - after all it means nothing until you die, it's for nothing at all but 'dieing'

The only good thing with me is that I don't have any bills to speak of other than the basic cable and telephone. My mother had a bunch of credit cards and I don't know what happens with those now that she is gone.

I know how you feel. I don't have life insurance now that I don't work, I used to have it with my work benefits. I am 50 years old and I am a smoker and I have health issues so even if I could get it I wouldn't be able to afford it. I know, becuase I have looked inot it and it would cost me $400 a month to get $10,000 coverage. I can' afford that, either. My hubby has life insurance with his job and if he ever leaves his job he won't have any either. So we are leaving a burden on our children as well.

My husband has life insurance and we are covered under his policy. I have yet to make out a will which I hope we get one done very soon. I just want to make sure my son is taken care of if anything should happen to the both of us.

Actually no I don't. Rather than life insurance I am working on putting back enough money to pay for my burial/cremation. Hubby has his own income so he wouldn't need any insurance money from me. As for Hubby passing away, his burial will mostly be paid for by the VA as he is a Vet and rather than insurance he has a pension that he got for working for the State Prison System for almost 20 years. I'll be able to collect from it when he passes away so it will be simular to insurance except it won't be a one time payment but rather like SSA (a monthly payment).

Here in Holland since 2006 we all have life insurance. For those who don't have them are or illegal people or people who can't afford it or are just lazy to have it.But in our country everyone has to have life insurance it is forbidden to have not a life insurance.
But the life insurance here is not so expensive as in your country.

Ya know..for some reason I've been thinking about this quite intensely lately and whenever I talk to my husband about it he says I dont need it because I don't work or something like that which makes no bloody sense to me whatsoever..I on the otherhand think its something I should seriously consider and look into since I DO have kids and I DON'T work..Its the same with a will..which I also dont have...My husband was big on me taking care of that when my ex (the kids dad) was still alive but now its not such a big deal to him it seems....(he reasoning and it was very logical at the time, was so my ex couldnt just swoop in and take the kids)..My kids have both been bugging me about it and I promised them that this yr I WILL write up a will...
Do you think EVERYONE should have life insurance? I mean I dont understand my husbands reasoning with this whole "well you dont work" thing..its illogical to me....what do you think?

I'm in my 30s and I've invested in life insurance. I've been put in very unforunate trials of life to where family members did have life insurance and it took its toll on my family. A $9995.00 toll. I have life insurance on mywhole family.

iam 60 now I have no insurancec; I never thopught of insuring as I have no such idea to save behind me. I earned amount sufficient for the daily maintenance of the family, and no scope of saving a single rupee and hence I am onluy a earning machine for the everydaylife only till now I am of the op[inion that my family shall nmot have even a single rupee from me after my demise. they have to earn themselves and saave but i am upto rearing them to a earning stagae
Though we earn and save crores not a single rupee will come with us
so long we live on the earth the life has to go on normal; saving lakhs to successors is a bad thinking hence I feel that after my demice nothing of a rememberable thing should be left behind me

I keep getting life insurance every time I get a decent job, then I loose my job and can't pick up the premium, so I hear you. I think it would be cheaper for me to prepay for my wake and memorial service and urn. Then pay down my loans or vice versa. Maybe I'll get another job. My part-time one went from 20 hours to 16. Take care

Oh you bet I do!! My hubby and I have it through the army in which is much cheaper than the civilian counter parts. I had to think of my fur babies too to be sure they're taken care of because they're all like children to me beside of course my loving hubby too, had to be sure he'd be ok too.

Well i'm only 20 but I bought an insurance policy which will cover me till my 40s. The up-side is that the premiums are locked in and are given to me at a very low rate but the down-side is I have to service the premiums which isn't that ok for an undergraduate but i'll survive.
I think life insurance isn't just something for the older generation to think about but also for the younger people to start considering seriously. It helps that insurance premiums are much cheaper when you are younger too.

I have life insurance that I pay for, as well as another policy through one of my jobs. If I was full time with the other, I would have a policy there, too. If you do not have credit card debt, $10,000 would cover burial, but not much else, like medical bills. If you are able to get a job with adults with developmental disabilities, maybe there will be an opportunity to buy through them. If you have any affinity groups, clubs, etc. AARP, you can get policies there as well. The sooner the better because premiums are based on age.
