Money Tells On You

I just had the most interesting thought and I want to see if you guys agree with me. In order to find out who you really are, you have to become rich. Alright, now this may sound silly, but I was sitting and thinking about how I would live my life if money was not an issue.
I could dress the way I wanted to. Live where I wanted to, drive the kind of car that I want to. Then, the world would see the real me. I do not believe that money would change my personality in a negative way. I believe that I am grounded enough in my beliefs not to allow it to tempt me to do something crazy. But, I sure want to know what I would be like if money was no issue.
I have never been a materialistic person, or money greedy, so that is why this is just now crossing my mind for the first time at 38. I have just become a millionaire in the making. Show me the money!!! He, he, he.

I suppose you are right but I think if we all had money, like we all had more than enough then something would mess it up.
We probably all think that it wasn't enough cos everyone was rich and we would all be sitting here reading the same type of post thinking the same kind of thing.
I have got to be honest I would probably go crazy if I was rich rich rich. I dont think I would share, I would wear totally crazy stuff, just cos I could and I would be really arrogant.
So thank goodness I dont have loads lol.

I'd like to be rich for only one reason and that would be to help others who are so down rodden that they just struggle on a day to day basis. And of course my family and friends who are in need of help and most definetly, I'd take in every cat and dog in the world (that I could) and have them all spayed and nuetered so the overcrowding wouldn't be anymore. I'd buy a big chunk of land where they could all roam free and safe for it would be fenced in where they couldn't get out and be safe and happy for the rest of their natural lives. I couldn't keep the money for myself alone, no way. I have to share it and try to help make the world a better place.

I'm with you 100%, CatsandDogs, I'd want to do exactly what you said. Why can't more people like us become rich? We'd make the world a better place, and I'm really not saying that in an arrogant way because I'd truly share the wealth!

You guys missed the whole point of my topic. I was saying that if people had all the money they needed then they would have the opportunity to become who they really are.
I was sitting down and looking at the clothes that I was wearing and I asked myself whether or not what I was wearing was really my style of dress. After saying no, I started to think of how I might dress if money was not an issue.
Would it change me as a person. The things that you guys are talking about, I do now without having a lot of money. I constantly give what I have all the time. But, when I become rich, will all of that change? They say that the more money you get, the more selfish you become, because you become so afraid of losing it all.
I live by the Biblical law that if and when you give, you are blessed. You don't have to be rich to share. God looks to see what you are doing with what he has already blessed you with, before he gives you more. Read the story about the talents in the Bible.

Thanks Annie. I wish I knew why people like us aren't rich. The money doesn't do anybody but the owner any good sitting in a bank to grow and then what? Show it off? I think that's a waste of good money when it can be used for much better purposes. I hate to say this but because you and I feel this way, we'll never be the ones to strike it rich. I don't know why but it seems that way for the only ones who do win the lottery keep it to themselves. As the saying goes, money is the root of all evil. And in the bible it says something to the affect of, "it's easier to get a camel through an eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to make it to heaven" - because it's the root of all evil. They keep it to themselves instead of sharing it like one should and help others that are in such need.
I'll tell you something, my parents used to gather things that they didn't need or anybody else for that matter and take it to the mountains to see a distant relative. This lady's name was Nellie, she's since passed, God rest her soul, she would divide everything up and give it to the different families that she knew personally that were needing the things we'd bring up. One time she took us to see this one family which consisted of a mom and eight children in a small one room house and a bathroom. I waited in the truck and this little girl came out and was playing with a headless doll. That was her only toy. I felt so sick in my stomach and it made me so thankful to have what I have which isn't much but I was rich compared to that little girl. That girl is grown up by now but she had a heck of an impact on me that I'll never forget. So I want to share all that I have to all that have less or are in need in one way or another and that's even now when I can. I love helping others for it makes me feel good. I don't want a pat on the back or any type of recognition but a simple thank you is enough for me. To see the smiles of happiness or relief is enough for me to carry on.

How often have you seen the words "eccentric millionaire" - I don't think rich people are stranger than anyone else - they just do what they like because they can. So yes, I think you probably become more "yourself" with more money. Whatever self that might be!

Show me too! I would help my family out for sure if money were no object but I have to say honestly that I would buy my own house and car and clothes ect.. first. I have 5 kids and would like to set them up. I know that lots of money would change the way I live and in the process I am sure it will change me. Liposuction, dental implants, and various other beauty treatments as well as my own personal trainer! Yeah that could work.

You already are rich beyond your wildest dreams. The only person you can ever really be is the person you are right now. There is no reason you cannot have enough money to do the things you want in life. You have taken the first step, and that is to change your thinking. You can have all the money you desire and still be the same lovable person you are right now. Materialism only gets out of hand when you need to have thing to make you happy. Then life become an endless chase for more and more because we find out that material things cannot provide lasting happiness. They can provide comfort and ease. To begin with, if you are healthy, have a few good friends or relationships, and know the path you want to follow in life, you are indeed rich. Far richer than money can provide.

I understand where you're coming from. If I were to suddenly become rich I'd be able to do so many things for others that I've always wanted to do. I'd be able to help children in my area who don't have the things all kids should have, maybe set up a scholarship fund to help someone go to college who otherwise wouldn't be able to, and like I told CatsandDogs, I'd do something for animals who had been abandoned or abused. Sure, I'd like to have nice clothes, and nice house and car and other things, and I'd love to not have to worry about bills but I'm not a greedy person at all and I feel sure I wouldn't change inside but the generous person I wish I could be would finally be released!

It was not that serious of a topic. What I was saying is that if you had the money, you would know for sure what your taste in clothes and different things were. You would not just buy only what you could afford. And money would tell people what your true taste is like.

You seem to be a very well grounded person. A lot of people say that money is the root of all evil but to me the evil was planted way before the money was. I know money wouldn't change me and one of my money goals would give back especially if money wasn't an issue.
