I have been a devoted fan of American Idol for years. Although some of the contestants that I loved were voted off throughout the years but some made it through.
I am so excited to see the new season start. One of my favorite sections of the show are the initial try-outs. This is where you see who you think will make it. There always seems to be that one person who you fall in love with. You find that one person that you watch grow throughout the season.
What is your favorite part of the show?

I am hooked on American Idol. I have been watching it since it started and the auditions are the best. It's amazing how some people who can't sing really think that they have a great voice. I herd that Paula will be performing at half time during the super bowl game, anyone else hear anything about this?

Yes, sometimes I think these people just come so they can be on television. Some of them are so hideous it leaves me and my family rolling in the floor or just with stunned faces! But all in all - its fun!
I havent heard anything about Paula being the half-time show. I was watching the Patriots last night and they said that Tom Petty would be the performer at the Super Bowl half time show.

I am curious also! If she does perform it will be the first time in a long time that I have actually seen her up and "doing her thing". I actually hope she does, this will show those contestants that say she old and washed up, what she really can do =)

I love American Idol and my husband hates it. I love all of it, except for when Chris Daughtry was sent home I stopped watching it for the rest of the season. None of the seasons beat that first season though. I love that very first top 12 show because you really have the best of the best and you can tell right away who is going to be the top five.

Well Chris Daughtry got the last laugh when he sold more albums than any of the other artists that year, whether on Idol or not. I also think that it's telling that they used his song for part of the American Idol commercial. I think Simon got him kicked off because he kept complaining he wasn't mainstream enough when he would pick songs like Creed's. In the end, Chris D probably did better by not winning so he could really make the album he wanted and not what American Idol wanted him to make.

I agree - I was so disappointed when Chris was voted off! I really thought he would make it. The shock on his face when he was voted off was even more painful. He knew that we all loved him!

i love the show!!! I have no idea why it is so appealing to me...but I look forward to it every season...I think I like the real competition the best...the auditions are a hoot though..I am so glad it will be on soon...I get some great workouts in while I listen/watch and walk on my treadmill while it is on!!! My husband just laughs at how devoted I am to it..since it really isn't like me to be so "hooked"...

Thats funny I dont like the show until after the initial tryouts. I think there fake (some of them) I like it when it gets down to the nitty gritty and the main contenders are choosen. The only season I missed was the one with Carrie Underwood.

I have to admit I missed the first two seasons - what a loss! I really didnt think I would enjoy the show as much as I do.
I dont really think that any of the try outs are fake - I just think that people come to show their...(you know what goes there).

I think some people feel this way because last season really didnt produce any jaw dropping contestants. Hopefully this year will be different!

I agree, and they pick weird categories. You would think that they would focus on pop and rock music because there are so many artists and great songs and instead they try and bring back something dated and then complain when the singers don't do well. They should stick to one category and not include Broadway show tunes or country music.

I can see your point here. Sometimes the shows that the audience is included are very drawn out. I also feel that the shows that include the contestants trying to sing opera style music are boring. First of all, I have a hard time being interested because I do not recognize the music or songs and also I feel the contestants are pressed to sing out of their range. I think these votings are unfair - I mean seriously can you imagine Ozzy singing Barry Manalow? Do you think that he would do a good job of it?

I hope that this coming season is better. Last season, I was disappointed. I didn't think that the quality of people was as good as the years before. I also like when they have a rocker mixed in with the pop people, even though they never win. At least it mixes up the crowd. I enjoyed Blake the most last year, just because he was a little out of the pop mainstream. The problem is that most of folks who they think are the best do not sing music I would actually buy. Still, I can't imagine not watching another season.

I totally agree with you. Last season did not seem to produce the type of contestants that mimic the previous seasons. I did have a hard time following the season because of this one factor, but I none the less stayed through out the whole season.
I also love it when they have a rocker in the mix. I really thought that Chris D. had a higer than normal chance of becoming the first rocker to win the #1 slot. I was so disappointed when he was voted off.
Maybe this year we will see another rocker make it to the finals and hopefully win the cherished title of American Idol.

The audition, I enjoyed weird people on the try outs. They really have the guts. Oh my where the hell they buy that I mean the "guts". By the way, that is the part of the show, that is why most people enjoyed watching it.

I've never been much of a fan of American Idol. A lot of my friends like it a lot, but I just barely tolerate it.
The only part I actually do like are the initial tryouts. Gotta love the judges' comments. It is so hilarious the lengths people would go to just to achieve fame and fortune. It's fun to watch people make a fool of them on television for the WHOLE WORLD to see. Can't wait!
