In India most of the cities face this mosquito maniac. Municipality or town council do not take any action to destroy this dangerous and harmful mosquitoes to the human life. Being this cold season we cant keep fans on but they are spending sleepless night because of mosquitoes. The sizes of these mosquitoes are black gram. It is pathetic the small kids body after these mosquito bite them. Once in a way a vehicle pass through with a kind of smoke at a rapid speed saying it is to kill the mosquitoes. But it is not a remedy at all as we observe then and there the mosquitoes freely move about and the main reason I feel the canals meant for waste water is kept uncovered and uncleaned so that the mosquito breed freely. I understand these mosquitoes span of life is one day. Just imagine if these mosquitoes live more than 1 day what will be the consequence of the situation.

Yes, mosquitoes are a big menace in India and also in other tropical countries like India. The heat and moisture helps insects to breed and winter-countries are better off than us in this respect. Yet I feel that we the people are much to blame for this too and also for many of our miseries. Our main problem is that we rely on the govt to do everything for us, to gift us all facilities on a golden platter. We don’t take up things in our own hands. How many of us think of clearing the huge mounds of garbage piled on roadside, until and unless the municipal workers come and do it? As a community, cant we all pitch in and keep our neighbourhood clean and free from stagnating water? How many of us care to tell our neighbours about keeping their homes dry? How many times have we all come together and marched to the municipal office and forced them to do the work that we all know they are ignoring? We just don’t bother anymore as a community…we are simply interested in our personal betterment and everything else which relates to all of us, should be taken care by the municipality, no matter how poor the quality of service is.

Hi, This is one of menace along with various other menace that mostly south Indians are facing in India. As I am Kerala our place is also known locally as "kothuku city" in our local language Malayalam which means mosquito city (kochi city) Here also an auto rickshaw filled with gas is sprayed few times in weeks and also some people from corporations also sprays but still those mosquitoes come. Only way to delete these mosquito is have a clean city which is taken seriously by the house to the government level. But these are also know to government political leaders which consist of most leaders who just want their health to taken care.

Standing water is the breeding place for mosquitoes. Here where I live in Canada there is a type of mosquito that carries the West Nile virus, which can make people very sick. Homeowners and apartment dwellers are encouraged to empty bird baths every day, leave not pots with stagnant water anywhere on the balcony or garden and cover rain barrels if they collect rain water. Of course, now it is winter and there are no mosquitoes right now. Another thing is that all our windows and doors have screens made of fine plastic or wire mesh so the little beasts cannot come into the house. Usually there are double doors to houses and balconies, one screen door first and then the door to the house. I have travelled to other countries and have been bothered by mosquitoes because there were no screens on the windows. I often wonder why that is. Do you know?

Yes, standing water is where mosquitoes breed. You have to rid your surroundings of such breeding places. Maybe you can organize a neighborhood cleanup of the canals. Better yet, ask the local government to do it.

Hi Suba here we have really cold season and we have few night below 0C so we dont have much mosquito nowadays but in summer and in rainy season, we do have lot of mosquito and the best way to avoid them is to use mosquito oil in rooms(All out and other stuff) keep ur home and surrounding clean and dont leave water uncovered in Pots and utensils and we get our lawn and surrounding sprayed ourselves Sure remedy should be done by local government authorities but if they are not then localities and socities should take care as now a days Dengue, Tango , malaria are common disease being spread by them Take care

Nobody like to sleep with mosquito, that's for sure. Even there's a quote says : "If you think you're too small to make a difference, think about sleeping with a mosquito in your room." In short, it's really annoying. Mosquito can never be eliminated, but it can be controlled. I believe, hygienic environment is one of the way to stop mosquito from nesting and growing. Smoke? That's not a good idea as it will affect others, example : humans. The way to control the mosquito is not by killing it, but by living a hygiene and clean environment.
