I cannot believe this. Most of you know that Mr Hershey himself made Hersheys his american dream, and who doesn't love hersheys???Well no more friends! herseys executives are moving ,closing down in the US and Canada, and moving to "Mexico" can you believe this?????They are laying off thousands of employees and forcing them to find other jobs, and some at minium wage, and why? to save money....reeses pieces are one of my favorite and it is made by herseys...according to Hersey executives they will save 170 million dollars per year by moving to Mexico, this will cut material cost and avoid taxes...Herseys will now be in Mexico, China and india..This is the end of Mr.Herseys American Dream, its sad ..I am sure that Mr Hersey would turn over in his grave today if he knew this...What are we thinking Folks????This is an American Dream and we are killing it..Plus putting a lot of employees out of jobs, some of them were forced into retirement.....What do you think about this..To me it is sad....

Are you positive? I haven't heard this before. Have you ever been to the town? Its great. The theme park was a blast and you gotta love the little "kisses" light poles. I hope that this is not a definite. That would really suck. This place is awesome.

It is definitely a shame. I hope they reconsider. This town is awesome and so is the company. I did the tour and learned about the school and everything he started. It is sad that everything is all about money anymore. Nothing else matters.

I cannot say that is a surprise to hear of another corporation moving it's operation to Mexico to save on taxes and labor. But, for the Hershey company to do this is a real shame..
Not only is there an entire town named for the company it was a longtime tourist attraction on the east coast.
I have to wonder if they or someone will maintain the grounds and museum for visitors attracted to the region for holiday and vacation destinations.

Thats horrible. My Hershey would be turning over in his grave. I wonder if The Hershey Park will stay and also the school for Orphans. He started all that for a reason, to help orphans have a good home and an education. His American Dream, his family or the "execuives" should be ashamed of themselves. The bottom line, the almighty dollar. That just turns me off of their candy bars, and some of them are my favorites. Maybe its time that Americans boycot some of these American companies that leave America because of the almighty dollar, where is their loyalty, they don't have any. Americans really need to "wake" up, way to many of our good jobs are going to other countries. I don't begrudge anybody anything, but "we" do need to start taking care of our "own".

This is sad to here. I hope they're not closing the amusing park in PA that is a landmark and a money mine for them. I hope they rethink this before making a move like this, because that isn't and won't be fair to the employees here in the states. I think it cheaper to keep them especially when they are going to have to pay for their laid off employees unemployment feesand taxes.

NO NO NO - you mean I'm going to have to give up Chocolate? This is a sad situation but I'm not surprised. We've been doing the same for years in many other areas - oh lets talk about 'American made Cars' where did they go? Most of the parts are now made in Mexico - I know this because 90% of the industry in my town is now closed down because of the companies outsoursing the manufacturing to Mexico where the cost of labor is cheaper.

I've heard they are moving and the only reason I can think of is cheaper labor (you get what you pay for) and no taxes. I really consider it a sellout and really feel for those workers that are going to be unemployed b/c of this.

Anytime something has to be changed is usually because of a budget. Sometimes the budget is not enough, so workers have to be laid off because of it. Sure they could hire very few people, but still, it costs a lot of money even to hire a few people. I'm sure Mr. Hershey would be upset, but in truth, it may be good for Hersheys to expand. Although I agree it is sad for those who are being laid off. Sometimes the American Dream, is simply just that, a dream. In our day and age, things are changing, and other countries have to have their dream too. Unfair as it may be. But it's the hard cold truth.

I guess it is time to boycott hersheys. Go to their web site and tell them that you will no longer buy their product!!
This is what is killing America people. Soon there will be no USA. We will be owned by the countries that we are in debt to!! Pay attention.

I think it is kinda sad but also good in a way. I think it may cut down on illegal immigrants coming over here because there will be better jobs at the plants in Mexico.
