I'm a student at college, but I'm finding now as in high school it was extremely difficult to shut off all the technology surrounding me and just study. I had a computer in my room and I was on it 24/7 as well as watching television.
What's your take on this? Post your experiences and what has worked to help you focus and just do the work/study with all those distractions? Post any tips/tricks/advice also. And for all those naysayers who will simply say, Just turn it off. It doesn't work like that for most high school teens these days.

Sadly, I have difficulties in doing this myself. Each year of college that goes by, I find it more and more difficult to shut out everything and everyone and just get down to studying. I find the best way to really study is just remove myself from everything that is distracting. Get up and leave my desk because that is where my computer is, and go somewhere else that will ensure that I will actually study. That's the easiest thing I can think of.

There are a lot of distraction these days. I know it's hard. Alot of it is self disapline. You have to say I am going to do this and i'm going to get it done by this time.
I have 3 kids and at the time my husband was driving over the road so it was not easy at all.
Part of the reason I was able to do this is because I am older and have learned how to tune things and people out so I can get things done.
Maybe try making yourself schuedule to follow. Pin up above your computer, the mirror in the bathroom and anywhere else that you frequent during the day. This way it is always right there in your face telling you that you have stuff that needs to be done.
I hope this helps you. Good luck.

I am a college student who also has a two year old daughter. Talk about a distraction. You just have to become disciplined enough to tune out what ever it is that is distracting you. There are times that I cant do it and it is hard. Your eventually going to have to learn to discipline yourself to go to your job or get up and go to college so might as well start early.

I know how you feel! What I've started doing is finding friends that have the same classes as me or just need to study like me and we study together. We have our computers with us to look something up if we need it and for music but we're not allowed to use it for anything else! It helps a lot having other people with the same goals around.
