Does anyone have any information or suggestions on how to become a travel writer? I am very interested in pursuing this as a career but do not know how to go about it. I am a published writer in many magazines and newspapers, so I already have experience in that area, and I love to travel but how do I go about getting a job doing this?

As you have experience writing for newspapers and magazines you could write a few articles on travel. You could write for Escape from America. They sell e books about living and traveling overseas. You could write a travel book and send it to a publisher. Good luck.

Try getafreelancer. I have seen jobs on there looking for travel articles and pics. There is a banner at the bottom of my blog if you need a link.
Also, if you plan on traveling a lot, how would you like to receive your travel at wholesale prices? I know how you can.

The way to break in is to write about travel, of course. Either pursue your traditional routes via magazines and newspapers or you can do what I did. For a short time, I actually worked for a travel company, writing their brochures. As you would imagine, travel writing is a very competitive market (who doesn't love to travel and get paid for it?). Basically, you need the clips to get other travel writing jobs.
If you look at the big magazines (Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, for example), they use well-known, mainstream writers for their feature articles...people whose names you recognize from best selling books. The others are either employed by the magazine or are well connected. The more you write about travel and get published, the better your chances are of getting these lucrative jobs. Also if you are willing to travel someplace out of the norm (very exotic), pay your own way, and take your own pictures, you probably have a better chance.
Good luck with your writing. Hope this helps.
