Official betting (except horse racing) is banned in my country - you could end up in jail if you're caught betting and trying to influence the course of a sport, or any other event, for that matter. Many states in the country have even banned lottery.
Trading in Equities/ stock which is a form of betting : The stock exchange in India are governed by some of the strictest (and sometimes the most transparent) regulations that are better and offer an investor more safety than offered by the regulators/regulations of any of the other countries (even mature economies such as the US, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Germany, or the emerging ones such as China, Brazil, Russia just to name a few)

Regarding betting being good or bad, I don't want to judge anything and say whether something is a good or a bad habit, so I leave that part of the discussion to individual choice.

I also partake in some betting games, but not to the extent that end up hooked on it. I just take it as a form of past time, to enjoy and atleast not consider money as the reason why I live.
It's either on card betting games, which is exclusive for family members and friends. Some horse-racing, a Spanish game called Jai Alai and other games that I can get involved with..
