If so, what were your experiences? Which model car? How high was the cost? How was the car and the ride? Which company was best?

I hace rented a car a few times. I gorget what kinf of cars they all were but one of them was a Grand Am. I didn't get to choose the type of car I rented. It was through my insurance company when I had to have work done on my own vehicles. There was no out of pocket expense for me so I don't know how much it actually cost. The ride of the car was fine and everything worked. I think Enterprise is best.

Yes. It is good because you do not have to worry about any upkeep or maintenance on it when you are done using it.

P.S. My rentals have come from Herzt, Budget, and this last one was Enterprise! If I am renting the car myself and not my employer or client, I do a web search for best deals in that area. I have discounts through frequent-flyer and credit-card programs at almost all the different car rental places so it really doesn't make a lot difference which one I use.

So the only difference is in the price.

We rented an Avis car last summer to go and pick up our new business van. It was a good experience. I had reserved a mid size car and when we got there they gave us a free upgrade to a ford crown victoria. It was almost new and was a great luxery car. It was 41 degrees Celseus out and the car was so cool inside. It was quite the shock when we returned it and drove back in this old van with no air conditioning! I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. It was cheeper that flying too.

I've rented a few times - cars, scooters, and motorcycles (also boats, bicycles, horses, an airplane, and an elephant). Most of my rental experiences were good. I had problems with a motorcycle in Greece. If it had not broke down so far away and taken half the day to get the rental shop to repair it, this would not have that bad. But once I was able to hitch-hike back to town, the shop owner was very good about fixing it and gave me a halfday credit on the week's rental. As for cars, I don't usually rent because I don't mind using public transportation when I travel for fun. Most of my rentals have been on work assignments. All the car rentals I have had, have been good. Most were small sedans, usually Japanese models, and they were new models, less than a year old. One job assignment rented me a full-sized American sedan, a big Buick 4 door. It was really nice inside and to drive, but was way too much car to get me back and forth from the hotel to jobsite. The most recent rental was a sup'ed up little Nissan coupe I rented in Colorado to go to my class reunion. It was fantastic! HOT ride!!! Slick looking and powerful. It flew up the mountain passes and hugged the narrow curves like it was on rail. (quite a bit different from the old 4X4 pick'em-up truck I own) With insurance and taxes and etc...it was about $35/day on a five day special rate. My flight was delayed and when I got to Denver they had given away the car I had reserved and up-graded me a couple levels to the sports car (they offered me an upgrade into a big 4 door sedan and when I frowned at the huge beast the manager suggested the sports car) So I was happy with the car and the deal!!!

Car rental - Logos of many car rental companies, except Hertz
I hired a car few times usually with Hertz that has the best prices around. Usually I ask for a economy car and end-up with a Ford Focus C Max no additional cost, guess it is the most available model they had. Cars are less than a year-old, after 2 years they sell the car. The Km can be very high. Prices are okay except if you get full coverage without franchise that can be costly. Only one problem after many rentals: once they give me a car with half a tank of gas and I didn't check before leaving the shop so it happens.
