How do you get relief from stress? When I was younger I hear people always talking on relieving stress. I never paid any attention to it until now. I'm 38 years and I've never thought that stress could really hamper ones life. Maybe because then I was still young and strong. As time goes by, your resistance goes down and stress can really affect you.

Hello Neriz69. I've read this article about stress and i want to share it to you.
EVER WORRIED about getting into an accident, losing money or being attacked? Stressful thoughts such as these can be combated through relaxation techniques such as praying the Our Father, Hail Mary or the Rosary.
Dr. Herbet Benson, director of the Mind/Body Medical Institute in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and a Harvard University associate professor of medicine, suggested daily relaxation techniques for about 10 to 20 minutes to combat stress. Stress occurs when people are in a situation that requires them to change behavior patterns. "Stress evokes a flight response. It prepares you for running or fighting," explained Dr. Benson.
A repetition technique "allows us to tap into the inborn capacity we have to combat stress," said Dr. Benson. "For a religious person, this is contact with God." These techniques decrease metabolism, lower the heartbeat and "quiet down the brain," he added.
According to Dr. Benson, stress releases a hormone, norepinephrine, that can cause or worsen existing diseases, while relaxation techniques release nitric oxide, which counteracts the stress hormone.
"I can't overemphasize the importance of the early training of Catholics in prayer," said Dr. Benson, a Jew. "In the West, for Catholics nothing beats the Rosary," he added.

Most of the time when I get stressed out I just try to relax, throw on some music and just concentrate on as much of nothing as I can. I figure the more that you can clear your mind when you are stressed out the more likely you will be able to focus on that stress later on and solve any problems you are having. Usually I get stressed out when I'm so busy with everything. So if I can stop and have a little "me time" I can eventually decided how do I want to handle all of my tasks so that I can get them done and at the same time have fun while doing it so that I don't get completely stressed.

One mug of coffee and an earphone with blasting music makes me good to go and forget all the stress caused by some sucking daily task. I don’t normally experienced this because I don’t acknowledge much of it hehe.. I just stay on the bright and light side.

Yes, stress can do a lot of things to you. I usually go out for a walk or get into a project or a good book to relieve stress. Sometimes that can be easier said than done. It depends on the situation. When I lived with my ex and things were really tense on a daily basis, I had a very difficult time finding any way to relieve stress. So I guess much depends on the cause of the stress as to how you go about getting rid of it.

I try to handle stress mainly by meditation. There are different meditation techniques available from several religions, and others that come from non-religious sources. Search for the one that best suites you, there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" relaxation technique.
Sometimes I do it simply by going to the local lake and sitting quietly. I pay attention to the sounds around me and to my own breath. This often has a calming effect for me.

I usually go for a walk, or I find something else to do. When my husband was working, I would go downstairs and scream my head off and throw an adult tantrum. I also cry, play the organ, sing, anything to get that thought out of my head. Sometimes it is hard to do and also talking about it is good, that is, if the person is nearby and can do something about it.
I may think I am strong, but when I start getting shingles or my legs start moving and I just feel like sleeping, my body is telling me something different.

You can also reduce your stress by doing the following:
1. Enhance your sleep by setting early hour bed time and reduce the use of acohol.
2.Reduce stress by engaging in cardiovascular activity at least three times a week and strength training at least once.
3. Eat small meals and light snacks every 3 hours
4. Learn to notice signs of imminent energy flagging, including restlessness, yawning, hunger and difficulty concentrating.
5. Take breif but regular breaks, away from your work desk at 90 to 120 minute interval throughout the day

I do get stressed out, but then I will get up from my desk at work, walk around, visit then come back. That works sometimes. Or when at home, I will just relax, think of nothing and zone out. A nice, warm bath, soaking helps relieve the day's stress for me as well. I have tried just sitting quietly for a few minutes, breathing and listening and paying attention to my breathing. After about 5 minutes I feel refreshed.

I know how it feels when stress gets in the way. I tend to just remain calm, sleep or enjoy my work. Then I have my friends I talk to when I go through that problem.
