Do you know that germs live on bank notes and can give you the flu if you are exposed to a large quantity of the notes?
"Our studies have convinced us that it is possible to catch flu from banknotes, but the chances are very, very slim and there is no cause for concern among the general population," he told Reuters in a telephone interview.
"All the same, bank employees and others who have to handle large quantities of notes daily could be at risk," Thomas said. "This could be reduced if they wear gloves, or even a mask for those who have to examine currency closely."
Sometimes we do take things for granted and we will never know what else among the things that we used in daily life can cause some kind of problem or complication to us. Aren't we fragile?

I have always known that money is covered with germs. All kinds of people handle money, you never know who had touched the money you have and if you are a cashier, that is a great reason to keep their hands washed or keep that waterless hand sanitizer with them..
And as a mother, I have had to tell my children when they were young to get that money out of their mouths and explain why.. There it is, another reason money is so dirty, kids put it into their mouths..lol

I think that cashiers are not the most exposed working cathegory to such airborne infections as flu and so on.
First of all because in general bank cashiers have got a protection glass between them and the customers,
Second, and most important, because flu is caused by a virus (orthomixovirus) which is very fragile in its external envelope, so it can't survive more than minutes out of our body (or that of animals such as birds which are the most common vehicle of this infection to man).
So, to catch a flu you must be exposed to the customer himself and not just to his own money...
Another noteworty thing is the fact that the so called entrance of the virus in our body is the upper airways tract: the nose or the mouth: so if you just don't touch them with your hands after having manipulated money -an hygenic habit which helps everyone to prevent many and many diseases and not just flu- you don't have the risk of let some viriones enter from the banknotes or the coins you have to touch.
Of course, if someone likes to imitate Disney's Unkle Skrooge and wash himself with coins or banknotes, or wanna appreciate gold's smell, the risk is obviously highier... LOL
