They are both needed but for different things, what hurts is that I never buy 20 gallons of milk at a time, where I do that for my van every 10 or 12 days.
I would really like the price of gas to go down.

I think that I need both equally because I have young children and they need milk, but if I did not have children I could do without the milk for a while. I heard someone on the radio the other day say that they make their milk last longer by putting a pinch of baking soda in it to keep it from spoiling. I've never tried that. Our milk never last past the expiration we drink about 2 gallons a week.

Depends on where you live I guess as to what the price of gas is. Here in the Seattle area you can see it anywhere from just under $3 a gallon to about $3.25. As for a gallon of milk, here most places it is right around $4 or a little over, but we do know 1 or 2 places here who have it all of the time for $3 or under.
I do not decipher the 2 since we do not have to spend much $$ to get to work, etc. so a tank of gas lasts us almost a week with our Forester, and a gallon of milk for the 2 of us usually lasts about a week so either is not that bad and much of an effect here. So I guess it would be what your needs would be family wise here.

Well, right now gas is more imprtant because we have to have it to get to places we need to go to.
Milk is $5.00 a gallon at a little store across the street from us, but it is $2.50 at Walmart right now.
Gas is a little over $3.00 a gallon here I think.
My husband has to have milk with every meal though and I have to have it to cook with so it is very costly for us.

Yes, Steph, we need them both but Gas is more important is you got a car. I would get powder Milk, or Carnation Milk to save money on the milk.

Hi Marcie! I think I would rather have gas in my car. I am not a milk lover. I buy maybe two gallons a month. Now...gasoline is a different story. It seems like we are always having to go to doctor appointments (or something)so we fill up quite often. The price of *both* is ridiculous.
(((hugs)))

Gas is really important to us, but if you got babies, that is a different story.

Since I don't have any kids at home now Milk is not that important for me in my book. If there were kids than milk would have to be the important item for me to purchase. At this time in my life I would have to say gas. I have to be able to get around where I want to go and without gas in my car that would not happen.

Hopefully, no one who needed both will have to decide between one or the other. Neither one is very important to me at this point in my life. I don't drive and I don't buy my own groceries. I would say that if you have a child, milk would be quite important.
If you need to get to and from work, gas would be just as important. If you have to go to work and have baby to take to babysitter, you will need both.

Here in Michigan, gas is $2.85 compared to a gallon of milk at anywhere from $3.09 to $3.49. Since I don't like milk, and I need gasoline for my business this is an easy choice for me. I would think, though, families struggling especially with small children would find this choice very difficult to make.

Milk is almost $5 a gallon here! Fortunately, I do not drink milk! But I do like cheese and it is starting to skyrocket too!
Do you know why the price is going up? All the farmers are starting to grow corn for ethanol. The price of all foodstuffs is going up because of the farmers choice of crops and the price of fuel to transport the edible crops that are being grown. Of course corn is a major source of feed for chickens and cattle so the price of chicken and beef is going up and so are eggs. Keep thinking...its scary isn't it, especially since the price of gas with ethanol is as expensive if not more so than regular gas. Screwed again!
I have to use some gas because we do not have a reliable public transportation here. They have cut out all the bus stops near the places I need to go. And on the weekends I would have to walk a mile to even get to the nearest bus stop. I cannot do that anymore.

I live in Dartmouth,Nova Scotia,Canada and gas here is $1.15 a litre and milk here is 3.49 a litre. I think that it is way too expensive for the both of them.

Milk $4.00? That is more than up here. I use powdered milk and mix it with the regular 2 percent we get and I use powdered milk for cooking. I think that way you can make it a little cheaper, but you do need to get around so you need the gas. You cannot stay isolated in your town or city and not get anywhere. Well here up in Winnipeg, there are some people that do not want any of us to go anywhere else, they LOVE Winnipeg, but I am not them, and I think if you live far away from stores and church, you cannot just walk there.
And what if you wanted to see someone out of town or someone who went to the city to get a job? You need cars then. You can substitute powdered milk for fresh in cooking, but it is hard to substitute another fuel for gas and hybrid cars are still too expensive.

i was raised on a dairy farm and drank a lot of whole milk..raw milk? well we did and we lived...but now i don't drink much milk but get my calcium from other sources as milk causes mucus..and allergy problems in some people..my wife won't touch dairy products when she is sick..lung problems..coughs all the time and yes she has been to a doctor in the Philippines and here in the states..but she has had shots, medecine..and even codien and cortzone..but she still is suffering..probably a weak immune system..but milk is not a priority to me..it once was a daily staple..but life changes.

Gas is more vital to everyday life. You need gas to get to the store to buy the milk. The farmers need gas to get the milk to the store for you to buy. You need gas to get to work to earn the money to buy the milk.
I love milk, but if I had only $4 and had to choose, I would get gas.
