I know it's still early in the season but am I seeing the standings correct??? The Lakers are the #1 team in the west??? I can't believe they can become the top team in the west with practically the same lineup they had last year with the exception of Fisher. But come on, the west is a powerhouse conference and they managed to become number one. Hands down to that and they need all the luck they can get since Bynum is injured. Let's just see if they can maintain the streak of wins they have right now!

Kobe and Bynum played well this season (especially Bynum). But it's not just Kobe and Bynum that are participating... Fisher and Odom also gives up decent numbers, not just points... but in assists and rebounds as well, almost all Laker players average above 1 ast. per game, above 1 reb. per game at least... and, most of all, Kobe is happy.

Yes, they do. I still remember the time when the Lakers would've gotten Kidd by trading Bynum but the Lakers didn't do it. Kobe criticized Bynum at that time since he isn't developing but now, I think Kobe felt relieved that Bynum didn't parted ways with the Lakers. But now, he's injured so the whole Lakers should step up again especially the guy named Kwame Brown. I watched the Lakers' 2nd game without Bynum and Kwame was just a disaster.

I think the LA Lakers become more stronger because of Bynum... He is the monster of LA Lakers.... He is so dominant when he is playing... He played like Dwight Howard of Orlando Magic... But suddenly he was injured.... I really feel sorry to him... I don't think now if the LA Lakers can sustain the number 1 spot in the west without Bynum...

True indeed. He can become another Shaq of the new generation. Their first game without Bynum was like a replay of last year wherein Kobe is the only player that will bring up the numbers while the rest of the players will just watch him. But they have Phil Jackson as coach so let's see what adjustments he'll make in the next few games.

What's even scarier is that they now have Pau Gasol, who's been putting up huge numbers for them since coming to Los Angeles. That's not even the clincher; Andrew Bynum still has yet to return to the lineup after his latest injury and that would make this Laker squad even more dangerous than it already is now.

There is no denying that the Lakers are one of the top teams right now. And with the number one ranking right now they are proving it. And you have to remember that usually they get better as the season goes on so I look for them to make an impact in the playoffs. The injury is going to hurt them but I think they could take that and run with it and put on some great winning streaks. How great would a Boston/LA finals be. That would get the media up and running on talking about the past. Two of the most dominant NBA franchises ever.

You're right. They're getting better especially the way the bench is contributing right now; very solid. I would also love to see a LAL/Bos finals matchup but I don't think that can happen right now since the Lakers is a young team and the next few games will determine if they have matured already or if they will again rely on Kobe taking all the shots when they can't score. The game against Phoenix later will be a real test if they have what it takes to win without Bynum in the court. Thanks for the insights Armstrong!
