Does Anyone Else Not Have a Favorite Genre?

I have been asked many times what is my favorite kind of music, but the thing is it changes when my mood changes. I mean a lot of the times I like to listen to rap music and rock music. I switch between to two often. I also like listening to country music when I'm sad, or if I want to hear a good love song (Because lets face it, its hard to find love songs in rap and rock music--not always but most of the time) And from Classic Rock to Techno, I'll listen to pretty much anything. How many of you are like this? Or is their just one genre of music you normally listen to?

Hi Armstrong 7886 Sounds like your music taste depend on what mood or situation is. I think it was Jerry Seinfield said "Not that there's anything wrong with that." I can't say there's a favorite genre for me since I grew up in a musical family. My father was a jazz arranger and later a rock musician. His site is www.daveappell.com His cousin Albert Appel www.appelfarm.org and his children are classical musicians. I suppose you could say the one genre I a tough time with military marching music. Not that I'm unpatriotic but since I was forced to listen to played at full volume virtually every day for two years in Junior College I grew to loathe it. Went to a private Jr. College in Rosement PA but one of the women loved that music. It was an all female college. Otherwise I like practically everything from Bach to Rock. Exception Wooly Bully. Sam the Sham and the Pharoughs. Rap that put women down. Racist rock.

I will definitely check out their websites. I don't listen to Jazz much but I do every now and then, I'm a big fan of the saxophone. And I think if I had to listen to the marching music that long then I would probably cringe at the thought of it too ha ha.

I'm with you on the rap that put women down and racist rock, we don't need music that promotes that kind of sentiment! At least I know *I* don't need it! lol

I like a lot of genres too, but there are some I like less than others, e.g. I don't like all forms of rap or all forms of reggae, and some forms of rock, I will not listen to any day! But I do like a variety of genres, and I like to hear music according to the seasons, at Christmas time, I listen to my Christmas music, then carnival time, calypsos and soca music, and then the rest of the year, it's whatever although I will still listen to calypsoes/soca during the other parts of the year as well as Christmas music, if I feel inclined! LOL But I don't like it when the radio stations play too much of the carnival music when it's Christmas time or too much of other music at Carnival time! LOL I feel that calypso/soca music doesn't get enough attention as it is, so when it is Carnival time, the least we can do is give it the full benefit of 100% airplay (in the land of calypso of course) as much as possible! I hardly think it's too much to ask!

I haven't really ever listened to too much calypso/soca music. Maybe I should start? But I like listening to Christmas music around the holidays too but they start playing it so early that usually by Christmas I am so tired of hearing it ha ha.

For the longest time when asked I would say that I would I like everything but rap and opera. But through the years I have found some hip hop I like and I love the opera Carmen. The main genre I like these days is classic rock and roll.I don't listen to the "new" music out these days. I have music choice on my cable so I just listen to 80's, 90's, and classic rock.and I beg to differ with you. There are some great rock ballads out there. One of my favorites is " Still Loving You" by the Scorpions.

I listen to a lot of classic rock and role and I don't disagree that there are some great rock ballads. I like "Wind of Change" by the Scorpions. Bad English's "When I See You Smile".

i have a friend and she is a singer. if you ask her what is her favorite genre it will take a minute before she can answer but her answer is not definite. sometimes she will answer from the 70 up to the present then she will laugh. there are a lot of nice, good quality songs so it is not that easy to choose.

I agree that the quality of songs (from all genres) are abundant. And I even like some stuff earlier than the 70's, although most of my favorite stuff comes from late 70's and 80's up. What kind of music does your friend sing?

I also believe that music is mood-dependent. When I feel emotional I would rather listen to alternative rock songs. However, when I am just doing nothing, I listen to RnB. Sometimes I also like the old love songs. It really depends on my mood.

I listen to a lot of alternative rock when I'm feeling down and out as well. There is nothing else like it.

Well as a mucially inclined person, I for one don't have a specifics when listening to music. Personally, I listen most of rock music, but maybe it's because I find comfort in that type of music. Still, I do listen to other sorts of music and genre. Like love songs, to inspire me when I'm in-love and folk or country music whenever I want to reacll "those precious times." Music can really change and alter our moods, especially when we can realte to what the words written in it tries to express..

I agree one hundred percent. And you just reminded me of a song that I have to listen to right now. Eminem's "Sing For The Moment" One of the lines in there goes "Music can alter moods and talk to you." But I try to find songs in different genres to inspire me at different times too.

I definitely enjoy all genres of music. It really doesn't matter the basic genre, I can find a song or some artists that I can enjoy and get into. It's more based on my moods on any given day. Sometimes, I like the hard stuff, sometimes the slower, softer stuff. Whether it's Rap/hip-hop, R&B/soul, rock, pop, reggaeton, country, classical, contemporary, I can always find something to get into. It's always about the music, not being specific to a genre.

I completely agree! Depending on my mood the music that I listen changes frequently. I'll go from Jay-Z to Pantera, then maybe some Ludacris or even Jason Aldean and back to something like Three Days Grace. You never know with me. Music is my psychiatrist. It helps me out a lot and I think thats why I have such a large spectrum when it comes to music.

I listen to most all kinds of music all depending on my mood. I think that at times I have my favorites for a while but overall I am like you. I used to love techno for a long time. The beats were so exciting, but I just flip through the radio stations now.

I'll either slip through the radio or have me a CD with a variety of songs and genres on it. I might listen to one style for a little bit but then I will be ready to switch it up to something else. And I think the beats of techno are exciting also.

Hi.there , Actually,I listen to all kinds music.I don't have some specific concept of all kinds of the genre..Personlly,most of the time no matter what mood I am in I am in favor of the soft music, maybe this kind of music will make someone wanna to sleep nevertheless,I like it.. Sometimes I will listen to some country music which will lead me to a quiet country life and help me to get rid of the stress that I have to confronted with in my studies or my works. Molly;-)

I truly believe that different types of music can provoke different psychological states of mind. Soft music and some country will definitely ease your mind and make you feel more at peace, the same way heavy metal music or hardcore rap can provoke feelings of anger, etc.

I'm the same way minus the rap part. Lol But you can just tell them you are eclectic which means having a broad veiw of things. That just shuts them up becuase they usually won't know what the word means. Lol

I used to not listen to many love songs because they were just too sappy for me but ever since I met my fiancee I find myself listening to them probably way too often ha ha.
