How do you feel about fasting?

I recently did a spiritual week long fast. It wasn't intended for weight loss but I ended up losing 14 pounds. I came off of it slowly starting with broth and yogurt so I only gained back 2 lbs. I'm wondering if a weeklong fast once a month wouldn't be a great way to lose weight. I'd be happy with losing 12lbs a month. And I've read there are a lot of benefits to fasting also. Anyone else fast for weight loss instead of spiritual reasons?

I'm sure it's not for everyone. The first day was a little hard but after that it was great. And coming off of it was okay but a little difficult not to overeat when coming off of it because that increased energy feeling started to go away.

It's a very good ritual.Once in a while we should do it that's for sure.

I actually felt great the entire week. It was like I had more energy then I knew what to do with.

I have considered doing this. I don't know if I could make it though. Once I get to the point of being starving hungry, I will eat whatever to make it go away. then I feel awful afterward, of course.

That actually sounds like a good idea, I wouldn't mind doing a fast if it meant losing 12 pounds a month. I have tried cutting down calories but lately it does not seem to be working very well. Perhaps a week long fast will help

I think fasting has great significance for spiritual reasons. However, one has to be careful not to do it for too long as it can actually have significant ill effects on your health for the long term. I have fasted - the longest was for 11 days. The first few days were difficult but I did feel great afterward. However, I went right back to my old eating habits - which I think everyone does - even though I know that is the wrong thing to do. I have now found a nutritional cleansing program where I cleanse (similar to fasting but with nutritional additives that ensure you don't damage your body) two days a month. I have lost weight, kept it off and turned my health around. My husband, has continued in our 'old way' of fasting. He continues to gain weigh, feel crappy (after returning to his old way of eating) and now has been diagnosed with early stages of Type 2 diabetes. We are both in our 40s. However, I have learned that no matter how much I love my husband and want to help him, he needs to make the choice for himself to make the changes to his health and his life. BUT that is a different discussion! Check out my website at www.lautz_tm.isagenix.com
