I don't understand your observation at all. I'm a parent of 4 ranging in age from 19 to newborn, I have no problem relating to or understanding my children. My mother & I have no problem relating to & understanding each other. Teenagers like to think no one understands them, but teenagers have thought that since the dawn of time. It's just part of growing up.

As exceptions are always there. when older and younger people don't understand each other because of their experiences, opinions, habits and behavior. It is a term which use to describe wide differences members of young generation and their elders. Do you agree every time to what your mother say to you or what you say to your mother? or you say to your children and they say to you. Aren't there any clashes??
Generation differences existed throughout ages, but during this era differences between two generation grew significantly in comparison to earlier times, particularly with respect to such matters as musical tastes, fashion, politics etc.

Well we have differences of opinions, and different tastes in various stuff. My daughter listens to awful music, and my mother likes horrible books (I love books- she just likes awful ones), but I don't see it as being generational. My best friend & I have different tastes too, it's what makes a relationship interesting.

I agree to your statement that friends also have different tastes, which is interesting. Yesterday I was going through the encyclopedia of Generation gap from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_gap. you can go through it.

i dont think so that is too difficult for a parent to understand their children because i believe that parents will have to understand their children no matter what their wants in their life..i mean, parents are broadminded when it comes to understanding their children...me, as a parent i will understand my child whatever and whoever she is..all parents really love their children and they will understand their children over and over...and me too...

Dear friend,
May be parents need to go according to changes in generation and moreover to adapt to the best things and updating the trends. I hope the mature one gets the vanishing of childness and this tend to have bit generation gap that also the vast changes in the society also may affect. May be the teens do need a better mingling more with their parents or elders as they are to welcomed without making them a distance apart. To get along with teens by elders may make the generation gap much less.May be it also might have limitations.

parents will not be receptive to children and to their emotions if they have big generation gap..bcos they would have almost forgot how they would have been when they were small .. what abt you???

See I believe Generation Gap is a vast topic where you can discuss your experiences. Everybody have their own experience, in my case, your statement fits but not every time. Today's generation is going too fast.
