A server is a computer that provides client stations acces to files. Like mylot or any other websites, they have servers that house everything from databases to webpages.
A workstation is simply a computer that has access to a server. Like the desktop computer you use to browse the internet.

your reply is confusing me. i have bought one workstation, and a server. but both have same processor speeds, and are core2quad. so in what way they differ apart from the fact that workstation cpu box is smaller than the server cpu box?
