The set of programms, routines and procedures used to operate computer hardware is known as software. Software can be classified as system software and applicatuion software. The software that controlls internal computer operations is called system softwares. System software is the most essential component of a computer system. Operating system and language processers are two categories of system softwares. The operating system acts as an interface between the user and the hardware. The system software which translate high level languageprograms into machine. Language program is known as language processor. Assembler, compiler and interpreter are three types of language processors. The software developed for speciffic application is known as application software. Packages, utillities and customized software are examples of application software. Word processors and DTP packages are examples of packages. Text editor, backup utillity and disc defragmentor are examples of utillities. The customised software is developed to meet all requirements of specified user.
