My girls like to buy lunch at school and I never have had a problem with them eating the school cafeteria's food because I thought if they wanted something hot, go for it.
I have a friend who started working in our school lunchroom this year and was pleasantly suprised at some of the healthy choices that the cafeteria is making to feed our kids.
So anyhow besides the standard standard sandwich, what are you putting in your darlings lunch boxes?

interestingly there is no cafeteria in my kids school and they have to bring in food as per the schedule provided by the school which normally is hygenic food except on saturday when children are allowed to bring in junk foods. As far as hot food is concerned each class has arrangement for heating of food and this is done for every student by a helper.

My kids also eat hot lunch. Though if we had to pay full price we would not be doing hot lunch I would pack their lunch. They'd have a juice box, pbj sandwich, a piece of fruit or pretzels as they don't get alot of time to eat. They do have pretty healthy menus at the schools which is great, only hard part is seeing how much of it goes to waste as the kids can't eat all of it.

My 14 yr old eats off of ala carte....she usually get something like nachos or something like that...the school offers gatorade or milk or water for drinks.
She never ever takes her lunch.
My 7 yr old will eat off the tray and they do have a good selection of healthy foods to choose from. He will take his lunch a few times a week. He opts for peanut butter and jelly, cheetos or pringles, a package of gummies and a juice or sunny delight.

Since my daughter is just three and a half years old, I could not put different thing in her lunch box except sandwich. What I can do is just making the`different kind of sandwich so she will not get bored with the food. And so far I do not have a problem with that. :)

My younger sisters have a healthy packup they take to school. They will have a wholemeal sandwich with ham and salad or cheese. They take 2 pieces of fruit and a yoghurt. A bottle of water and a juice box. If they eat there lunches then they will get some money and will be able to get a iceblock or a packet of chips.
