They finally name the polar bear cub as Flake or Flocke in German. The bear, which lives at Nuremberg City Zoo, will be known as "Flocke," which in German means "flake." Officials at the German zoo said they received more than 50,000 e-mails, letters and postcards from all over the world suggesting names for the female cub. Flake has become a celebrity and now you can read about her almost everyday on the internet. Isn't that amazing? Read more: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/01/18/polar.bear/index.html

I don't really like this name, but it's the people's choice so there's not much to do about it, "Vox populi, vox dei!"

May I know why you do not like that name? Thanks!

I don't know... it seems to me that nothing can be more obvious than linking a polar bear to snow by its name... I think such an obvious link shows a lack of imagination. I'm not saying I could have chosen a better name or something, just that for some reason it feels boring.

Flocke is cute, the mini bear and the name. In two years she will be grown...
