Why are we so afraid of shadows...?

It's really strange every person has his/her own shadow.Often shadows are related to dark and danger.There's also a site about ghosts called shadowland.
But why are we so afraid of the shadow.What does it have to do with darkness or something evil?
It's just a shadow right?Or is it more than just a shadow?

okay i got confuse in here, my dear friend. what do you mean by afraid with shadow? do you mean shadow of our own self or any else of shadow? if its talked about shadow of our own self, i dont feel afraid at all even in the darkness. c'mon, thats only my own shadow. but if its not about shadow of our own self, i should little bit careful, does the shadow would harm my self or not? if i already clear about what the shadow of that i would know what appropriate action which i should do;)

I mean others shadows.Sometimes when you walk on the street and you see someone elses shadow people get afraid.

ah so its about thats shadow, another human being shadow, dear eyewitness? well, it would be depend on the person then. if you just walking alone in darkness or quiet place or street, i think its normal if we getting more carefully who knows there is bad person following us that could be our fear of the human shadows. but i believe we walking in busy place or street we would not so much afraid of shadow, my dear
