Getting My Etsy Shop Started

I finally opened up my shop on Etsy after debating about it for a few weeks with myself. I love designing and making shirts mainly baby onesies but I didn't know if I should try and sell them or not.
This morning, I added two of my Valentine baby onesies and I'm so excited and nervous about it. I want this to do good because I absolutely love doing things like this. I'm hoping for a lot of custom orders and things like that.
So, does anyone have any tips on promoting your items and setting up your store? I really want this to be a success and I need all the advice I can get.

Wecome to Etsy! I've had my shop on Etsy since August and I think it's great.
As for tips... don't add 4 or 5 items at one time ot even in one day. Add one or two at a time (it's better if you spread out the listings) that way you keep your name and items at the/near the top of the catagory. Very important, as buyers looking for your specific item will also check out your shop when they find you on page 1 or 2 of the catagory.
Use the promotions forums to promote your items and don't be shy about going on several times per day. Start your own, or look for any existing thread that your items can fit under (ex- B is for..., you would type Baby and the link of your item image, O is for ... onesies, etc)
Look for threads whre people are looking for newbies!
They may be doing a treasury or just want to buy from a new memeber.
Okay, setting up your shop. A store banner and avatar are important. They may not seem so, but people want to purchase from someone with a professional look, especially when the seller is new. My banner and avatar was fairly inexpensive and I bought it on ETSY. Very easy to install and I used the same artist to create my the layout for my business cards.
Let me know what your shop name is (I just sent a friend request)
Feel free to ask if you have any questions...Good Luck to you and welcome to Etsy!!!!

Awesome advice Robin...I'm stopping by your store too on payday- I love the pink cube earrings and the amethyst seaglass ones- there are a bunch more that are so pretty too but those are my faves. Your prices are amazing as well.

Thank you so much for your comments! I really search for my supplies and try to buy beads that are on clearance, usually out of season, so I can sell my items for less than most of my jewelry competitors.
The amethyst earrings are very pretty, but so hard to get photograph properly. The sunlight really changes the color on them...I have a pair with smaller sea glass pieces and I always receive compliments on them!
I'd keep these, but I promised myself when I started making beach glass creations, I would sell most of what I make, not keep them all!
Thanks again!!

A blog is good promotional device, you should always make sure you have business cards on hand. I would think since your specialty is baby clothing how about leaving a few business cards at pediatricians office.

I had an Etsy shop but it didn't go well for me so I closed it last month. It was my fault since I didn't promote the site and the items I sell are not in huge demand. I think Etsy is a good site and very reasonably priced.
I would definitely suggest you show many items. That's something I did not do, my mistake. Etsy does have a forum where you can get advice from many other members and learn the "ropes."
Wish you the best of luck with Etsy and hope you do extremely well.
Have a great weekend,

How cute. It is fun to find original things for your babies. They are only little once. I have never been to esty. I guess I will look it up and see what else is there. Good luck with your new store, and great idea for a product. Thanks
