Yesterday, was my eldest Granddaughter's sixteenth birthday, and I had to smile when I saw the gift little Lauren had bought her.
Neither of the girls like spiders in their room. Lauren already has a conker in each corner of her room because she was told that they would keep the spiders out. lol. Well, yesterday was Sarah's birthday, and the girls save up their money to buy each other a present. Lauren had come up with this spider catcher. As you can see, it's bright pink, with a daisy top, which has a smiley face on it. There are little holes in the top, supposedly so the spiders can breath. You have to put batteries in the bottom of the cup shape, then when you see a spider, take off the flower top, place the tube over the spider and it creates a vacuum which gently sucks the spider into the tube. You then replace the daisy head, and carry the spider outside to release it from the tube. I thought that was a great present, and Lauren was so proud that she'd found this. It was a prettier version than others I've seen too; it's like a flower in a flower pot. I had no idea what it was until Sarah showed me. lol.
If there's anybody out there afraid of spiders, one of these is the ideal gadget for you. It looks quite pretty left on the sideboard, or dressing table, and is handy at a moment's notice. The cost is between £6.99 and £9.99, depending on where you buy it, and I thought I'd just hand on this piece of information. lol.
Any takers? :)

I'm so touched! That is the most thoughtful and sweet gift! And from one sister to another! Who better knows what someone really needs than her sister? And I'm also so impressed that it wasn't a spider killer, but a spider catcher, which allows the girls an opportunity to be conscious of life, and the right that even a spider has to exist. Bless their hearts. They sound like wonderful girls. (don't get the idea that I'm a right-to-lifer by that previous comment, I'm not, but I hate the thought of killing living things when it would be so much better to catch and release) They must bring you great joy.

Indeed... that's the way they've been brought up, to appreciate life, for all beings. They love Nature and animals as do I, and both the girls are unafraid of bees. They insist they won't sting you if you don't interfere with them. They are lovely girls even if I say it myself.
Both their Mum and I have humane mouse catchers too. They get trapped in a clear box, with holes in, so they still get oxygen, and we release them out into the fields. :} I hate to kill things.
Brightest Blessings.

Oh my goodness, you are a woman after my own heart. I so agree with you. I happen to be allergic to bee stings, but I agree with your girls. They won't bother you unless you swat at them or otherwise threaten them. And I'm a firm believer in humane ways of catching vermin, rodents, or reptiles. Thank you so much for you response.

What is a 'conker' and why should it placed in each corner of a room ? I am always excited about expanding my vocabulary and knowledge of words as being a writer would be . . .

Conkers are the fruit/nut of a Horsechestnut Tree, as shown in the picture. I'm not sure whether you're supposed to place them inside their shell, or out, but she placed them "shelled" in each corner of the room.
It could be an old wives tale, but it is supposed to work if you do this, in keeping spiders away. I must ask her whether it's working for my granddaughter. lol.
Brightest Blessings.

Lol... it's just that she hates sleeping with spiders in her room. She doesn't like to kill them either and she was even a bit wary about the clear tube. She said the spider will be looking at her, pitifully and she'll feel sorry for it. ha ha ha.
Brightest Blessings.

Wow how sweet of Lauren! Isn't it pretty too - I would definitely get one of those , not for myself as spiders don't bother me but I think I told you before that Niamh is absolutely terrified of them. A great idea for a little gift when she is good and fantastic value, I definitely think I will have to get one - can you find out where Lauren got Sarahs from for me? Hugs xxx

Yes, I'll find out where she got it, but you can get them from Amazon online, if you have difficulty. The only problem with that is that you have to pay postage. I haven't checked out E-Bay yet either. They might just have them on there. Here's the Amazon Link...

It is a very novel and practical way to deal with spiders plus an humane thing to do as well because of the spiders are not killed by us but instead it will be food for other animals and birds to feed off. Well done.

Lol... I don't think many birds feed off spiders. I don't know why that is, but they seem to feed more off the insects, as do the spiders. Maybe it's something to do with the numbing poison they inject? I don't know, but I think spiders fare quite well in the garden.
Brightest Blessings.
