tiger starved or natures coarse?

Recently I read a story that a tiger kept in a zoo gave birth to a tiger cub and wasnt feeding it,tiger cub wouldnt feed,mother wouldnt let it. zoo keepers wouldnt feed the tiger cub as they wanted the tiger to take natures coarse.. (starve) The were trying to make the mother tiger feed it by watching it starve however wasnt working the mother abandoned the cub.. I think its cruel some people say thats the way it would happen out in the wild so its nature?What do you think?
