what is the worst white lie that got you in real trouble ?

this is the kind of lie that was meant to have no consequences when you played it out, but when the real deal came along it turned bad.
you have worked out how to cover yourself in your head with the little lie, that also leads to other lies as of how why when where.
have you ever got someone in real trouble, caused a riff or break up because you told a small lie that didnt mean anything to you?

I was in High School, I missed food at the cafeteria because i got caught up in long lesson run by some old teacher who had no sense of time. When we got to our dormitories, we didnt get anything spared for us in the Dinning Hall. I met this friend of mine who told me his friend had gone home and would not need his lunch-he offered me his roommates lunch and I needed it badly. Just as I was half with the lunch this guy shows up and started demanding for his food-my friend quickly turned into a villain and told his roommate that I had actually stolen the food. This guy descended on me so mercilessly that he could have broken my jaws, i was saved by another student who witnessed for me, proving me right that I didnt steal the food, but was offered the food on the lies peddled by this other friend of mine that his roommate would not be in for lunch! The explanation saved me, but oh God, I had received very cruel punches on my head! That is one lie I shall not forget!
