As a young boy growing up in a country setting, almost everybody had a garden, some large and some small. They also had various live stock, chickens ect.depending on what they could afford. They canned fruit and veggies, they butchered their live stock and preserved it in various ways.
Most importantly, what I remember is how families helped other families when the need arose. This was before welfare, food stamps and all the other programs available today. They didn't have to be asked to help, they just showed up and did what ever they could. Most didn't have money to give you but instead they gave of themselves.I remember going to visit family and while there, the ladies may help shell beans, make a quilt etc. while visiting. The men on the other hand would do things together as a group.I remember when my Uncle would schedule to butcher some hogs, which was a lot of hard work.Other family members would show up to help and when they left, they had pork to carry home. If someone was sick, family was there to help.*******
*********What made me think about this was a post I read a few minutes ago. A man and his wife who were expecting a child and they were looking for help, recommendations,
donations of baby items and financial help.*****I couldn't
believe that between the two of them and their families, they
had to go to strangers for help.************They were already seeking help from social agencies ect.******AND I
WONDERED,WHERE IS THEIR FAMILY?

In cities no one cares for anyone else , they are just interested in their food shelter and clothing , evryone ignores you when you need help and when you have money evryone will be your family , evryone is very mean today dude only money speaks!

Archie 14, I find it hard to believe that everybody in the city is like that. Suppose you start a new trend. Starting with your immediate family, make the decision that when one needs help, the others will do what they can to help the other. Then extend it to Grandparents,Aunts,Uncles ect.
Have you seen the movie "Pay It Forward"? If not, watch it some time. Helping each other can be contagious and guess what? IT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!!!
