No, I don't think it is wrong to ask for donations. After all donations is not like you are forcing people to donate. Donations are up to the people who see them. It is their decision to donate some money or not. I would it is definitely worth a try. I don't know how to set up paypal donation buttons or I would try it also one day.

You just log into your paypal and enter donation button in the search box. That is what I did.

beh depends about the blog..usually if youa have many posts on your blog where you are halping people in the ent doing or optimize some things..the donation button is ok!!even if i guess donations won't come easely..

I agree. Donation buttons are okay when your blog is intended on something for the benefit that goes not just you but mostly to others as well..

It was just something to try out. I probably won't even keep it there forever.

Hmm, I don't think it's wrong though. You are not forcing anyone to donate and stuff right? If they want to donate, then it's okay, if not, it's not a problem either. So, I guess putting a donation post in you blog is just okay.

Do you have paypal? If so, all I did was go to the paypal website, log in, then do a search for donation buttons. It led me right thru it. Then you put the code on your site.

It depends what you are asking for donations for? We all have money issues and struggle...I think it depends on what you are doing to better your situation. But no I don't think it is wrong unless you abuse it.

I don't think I am abusing it. I don't even ask for a donation really. I think I did one post on it. I just say by the button that any donation is appreciated.
I find myself not contributing as much to my blogs now that I am doing more freelance work. If I was getting more money for the blogging maybe I could spend more time on it.

Theres no wrong with it. As long as your site offers a very good content. Is your site offers a tip for cooking, gardening etc? You can ask a donation if your site offers a free content that gives your reader a very useful techniques to help them. I also have a site that ask a donations. Heres my site http://hororstoryforyou.webs.com/

Oolala Okay inspired by you, I will also put one on mine. I don't think that there is something wrong in asking donation from somebody who is ready just to donate anytime.
What do u think a normal person would donate by just seeing a button, never. He/she will only donate if they like their blog and it's posting or they have excess which nobody has. Even if we ask joel comm, he would say he need more money.
I like the idea and I am also putting one now.
thanks

You have to go to paypal. Then do a search for donation button. That will lead you through the set up.

I do have a blog that asks for donations, but the reason is good. I am a pastor who writes to prisoners who need guidance and family members are no longer available to be there for them mentally. Because I write each letter and mail them out using my own funds I ask people to donate to buying postage supplies. I think if you are going to ask for donations it should be a worth while cause.
