Having the house to yourself - and are there things you can't do with other ppl?

Ok, I love my husband, I do! And he doesn't even bother me when he's home. However, do you ever just enjoy having the house to yourself just for awhile? I like to exercise to videos, but I feel dumb doing it when people are around... don't ask me why! He works early so he goes to bed early and that's usually when I end up exercising. We can go to the gym and workout together, but for some reason I can't get myself motivated to do an exercise video when anyone else is around. Even when I lived at home, I'd only do these videos when my parents were upstairs or not home. Is there anything like this in your life? Are there things you set aside to do and save for when your spouse or family is gone?

I had the whole house for myself today after a long time this weekend. my roommate went home and my sister went to visit our parents so I invited my boyfriend over. I mean, he comes when my sis and my roomy are here too but it was much different now. We said that it is going to be this way all the time when we get married and we wished we could be alone and together every day. I hope marriage is really going to be that great but we am not planning to get married yet maybe in a year or two.

Yeah when we were dating we did enjoy alone time b/c my husband lived with roommates the whole time so it got kind of annoying at times. Sometimes we just wanted to talk about the future or just watch a movie together and they were always around! So we definitely enjoyed when no one was home, which was rare. Now it is just to two of us and sometimes I enjoy when it's just me :)

Alone time I am not sure if I know what that is!! lol no seriously I hardly get time to myself I have my kids with me or if not them my hubby is home from work. I know how you feel with the exercising by yourself I am the same way but I never get a chance to be by myself so I had to learn to get over it. I do taebo and my 3 yr old watches me and laughs ughh not the best thing but hey I have to do it!

I don't think I'd mind kids being around as much as other people :) I would just convince my kids that it is fun and have them try it. It's funny how we can be so self-conscious about something that is meant to be good for us.

I believe that we have all the rights to keep ourselves private, especially when in our home. I prefer to be atleast alone at home, where I know I can enjoy doing anything I want. Good thing we don't have that much visitor here, who stays in our house for a long time. You just have to wait for some time your house guests goes home, or you can also perform those excercise regiments in a room where you are the only who can enjoy doing it. if you want, you can also talk to your husband about that matter so it can be settled in a nice way.. BTW Say hello to your hubby from his good old friend, Raijin..

We don't have a lot of rooms in our house actually :) And even though I know he will stay in the computer room the whole time, I still just prefer doing exercise when no one is there at all. Maybe it's the lack of possible distractions that keeps me focused. Who knows!

I also feel the same way. . . Right now my partner is not around and i will be home for 10 days alone, alone in our bed and in our house. I always like him to be around but there is this kind of feeling that somehow give some relief that i can do the things alone without anyone watching. Or i can be myself and go crazy as i wish. 4 years of being together this will be the longest day that we will not see each other. I missed him also but i still feel okay. And i realized that i need time to be alone and be myself without anyone around so i dont have to be afraid of any criticism or being joked by anyone. Every one needs a break to everyone. . . even to your love ones.

I don't really like being alone at night. I sleep better when someone else is home. However, having a quiet evening now and then isn't so bad :)

That is the one thing I cannot do with other's around - do an exercise video or other exercise - like sit-ups. I feel that I'm being watched or laughed at because I am so not coordinated. I also don't like to start creative ventures when other people are around. Once I get going and focused it's okay (probably because I get so focused that I don't know they're around).

I agree, it just feels awkward to be trying to exercise when others are watching. Exercising usually doesn't look very flattering no matter how coordinated you are! I do sometimes start creative projects when no one is around. It's true that it is usually easier to concentrate without the possible distractions.

I love having my 'alone time' sessions. If I didn't I think I'd kill my boyfriend!! During these times I also do my exercise videos, make my video blog (I really can't make them while he is in!), or just having a nice quiet time reading or similar. Some of it is completely irrational embarrassment, he is my boyfriend, he knows practically everything about me and yet I just can't make a video blog or throw my self about to a video while he's there! Crazy but true! I do love it when I use the time just to be a bit pensive without someone asking me if I'm ok (which I am) or interrupting (by making me answer!).

I couldn't do that either. I have a speech class at work and I can't practice my speeches until he's asleep or gone for the evening.

I can't talk a lot when there are many people in the house. I can't play the piano, I can't log on the net, I can't clean the house LOL..Also I can't rearrange the furniture when there are people present. I'm a super introvert so basically, everything I do, I want to do it by myself.

Well I'm lucky in a way as I now live alone. My mother passed away in the summer of 2006 and she was pretty much homebound the last year of her life...but she would be home a lot anyway and frankly her presence drove me daft at times...The apartment I live in is a glorified studio so there was no real "place" to go to, to be alone...so it was like no matter what I was doing, even if it was doing housework and cleaning, I felt she was watching my every move..actually gave me the creeps..LOL I just always seemed to do things faster when I was puttering around alone...Of course I'm not completely alone...I do have my two kitties with me....and yes, they love to help me clean.... :)

I soooo know what you mean. I love to do the videos too, but I will not do them in front of my hubby. I feel stupid about it,.......lol

I so cherish my "alone" time which is very very rare! Yes, there are things I just can't get into when my boyfriend is around. I think we all need a bit of alone time.

My hubby works away from us. He comes home only after few months. So those months that he is away, I have the house all for me and the kids. I sleep alone in our room. I do everything on my own. But when my hubby comes home, I adjust to accommodate him.

Yeah that would be hard if you have a long time alone to adjust to being alone, then having to adjust back :) It might be a nice break though! I don't have kids yet so I wouldn't want him gone for a long time like that!!

I know it sounds boring but I like to do the housework when no one is home...that way no one can get in my way :) Other than that, I like to relax which doesn't happen much with an active 8 1/2 month old daughter.

i think theres one generic answer anyone could answer that they tend to only do when theyre alone but aside from that i prefer to get lost in music.. i turn it up louder than my wife would ever let me while she or my daughter are home haha :) so i put on a playlist of my favorite songs that i never get sick of hearing.. sometimes i even put headphones on just to block out any outside noise but anyways ya then i crank the music and just enjoy the effortless enjoyment of the greatest music to grace my ears.. id do it in front of other people but its not quite so easy as they cant stay quiet for as long as i can listen to music etc.. and if my kids are here obviously i cant listen to music with no distractions! heheh my kids love listening to music too though so we rock to lots of oldies and classic rock :D my daughter loves watching me play guitar hero too lol anywho im done my ramble now

I know my husband is turning the music up when I'm not there! I come in the house and it's blasting and I turn it down immediately. I never can understand how he can listen to it as loud as he does, must be a guy thing :)

I don't turn it off, just down. Or when he starts talking to me I'll say "what? I can't hear you?" and he gets the hint.

haha i know a few girls who like it louder than me but yah its pretty safe to say a lot of men like loud music.. some dont though! i think it depends on the music.. rock-n-roll should be loud.. country should not :D teenybopper stuff should be on mute.. :D my wife always turns my music off when she gets home :( turning it down would be nice hehe
