At what age were you allowed to stay at home by yourself? I do not think that I have ever stayed home alone. Lol. But my sister is 13 now and she has been staying home alone since she was 10 or 11. Is that normal? I know a few others that young at home alone though. I just want some input.

I think I was around 12. I remember the last time I had a babysitter. I have a sister that is 10 years younger than me and we went to the sitters. My sister was less than a year old. I can remember playing in a park. Then the next thing I remember was that I was staying home alone and watching my sister over summer break. But we had very strick rules I had to follow.

I stayed home alone at 10 with my brothers who were 9 and 7. I don't even think that is legal nowadays and I would not do it with my kids but at the time it seemed great. I began babysitting at age 11. I watched 4 kids at a time at one home and was in charge of a newborn and a 2 year old at another and often very late nites. Being a parent myself now and looking back on it, it all seems really weird. I just would not leave my newborn and 2 year old with an 11 year old for hours.

I know - it's so wierd. Being a parent, now, there's no way I'd leave my 10 & 8 year olds home alone.

I was home alone when I was in grade one. My brothers were suppose to walk with me from school but never did. It depends on the child, how mature? By the time I was 10 I was babysitting and staying home by myself at night.

I think the first time i started staying home alone for hours was when i was 9 years old i was the only child and i would get out of school my mom would come home 4 or 5 hours later after work. then my mom had a opps baby my little sister and we had a siter some but not much. when i was 12 i watched my sister and 4 other kids all was age 1 to 6 years old and there was an older boy that was closer to my age but we just kinda teamed up on the sitting cours. i then started watching my sister alone too. mom would take me out of school to keep her cuase she could not find a siter. fun then but as a mother of 3 girls now i don't think that i would do that. my kids are ages 3, 5, and 7 and i have left them home alone while i went a mile up the drive way to meet someone but other then that no way they are not old enough maybe when the oldest is 9 or 10 we will talk about more time.

I hated how my friends at school were allowed to be home alone quite a bit, but I had to fight and fight before I could even be let home alone. I think I wasn't allowed home alone until I was about 11 or maybe a bit older than that and it really drove me nuts. I hated feeling like I wasn't being trusted when I never once gave them anything not to trust me over.

I could not remember the exact age. But what I knew was, I was already working then. Old enough to take care of myself. My mom used to tell us that we should do things on our own since we were young. Because time will come and we will do things on our own.

When I was growing up my sister and I stayed home by ourselves when we were about 8 & 6 (I'm the younger one). Prior to being left home alone our parents would give us a run down on what we couldn't do, like open the door for anyone...and I mean ANYONE if they were expected to be there. This includes family members as well. I remember a time one of my cousins stopped by after coming back from Hawaii, but my sister nor I let him in because were told not to let anyone in when our parents weren't home. My cousin did get upset a little as he's family after all, but my parents were very strict on this rule and my sister and I were not going to break it.

I first stayed alone in my home when I was at the age of 6. It was only for one day. But it was only when I was 22 that I went alone to some other city and stayed there to join post graduation course.
