Types of Music

Okay how come when someone askes me what type of music I listen to and I say all except for country, I get this face like "What??!!" Most of my community are african americans, so they expect me to listen to mainly Rap and R&B. That is sterotypical and I'm use to being sterotyped like that, but why is it that I am not suppose to listen to rock, jazz, or anything other than rap and r&b??? Then when I say rock(especially around my classmates or friends) they tell me I'm crazy. My question is how come others don't bend to try something new and out of the ordinary?? And if you are willing to then let me know. I have a list of different genres under my interest and would not mind giving you a list of recommended songs.
