Vast forest covered the earth during the time the first reptile appeared. The climate was uniformly warm. Under such favorable conditions the reptiles multiplied rapidly. In fact, so many different kinds existed by the Mesozoic Era that it is often called the Age of Reptiles. There were reptiles on land, in the sea and even in the air. Reptiles reached their evolutionary peak with the advent of dinosaurs. But these awesome beat died out at the end of the Cretaceous Period.
