Do you prefer sugar or sweetners?

In drinks I'll quite happily have sweetners (tablet form) as I cannot taste the difference. However, I cannot stand artifical sweetner (sugar replacement powdered stuff) on my food. Yuck. What about you?

I have crazy taste buds I think. I can't drink or eat anything with artificial sweeteners of any type. It has to be sugar, or nothing. Seriously, I always get a chemical aftertaste when I eat anything with an artificial sweetener, which sounds silly, but it is true. Oh well... :O)

I don't think that's silly, more your body rejecting something that it doesn't want and knows to be bad for it. So not crazy taste buds, more intelligent taste buds.

I'd much prefer the real thing. I have never liked sweetners, the taste is strange. And there is much caution when drinking diet sodas and the dreaded aspartame. Here is a link to one site which cautions the consumption of artificial sweetners. http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/5393/Artificial-Sweeteners-Aspartame-and-The-Dangers/ What's scary though is not knowing you are eating something which has an artificial sweetner. Pays to know more about what goes in ones mouth!

*sigh* the link is going to put me off my diet coke isn't it?! but never one to turn away knowlegde I suppose I better read it (i almost typed 'drink' *rolls eyes). One thing really surprised me. When I was on a 'I hate diet stuff' mood I went to get normal squash rather than the sugar-free version. I was shocked when I read the ingredients and found artifical sweetners listed, I mean it has sugar in it, it's not sugar free, why do you need the artifical crap?! I think I need to be rich so I can go totally organic (I know it still has crap in it but it's a lot less crap!).

I prefer using regular sugar. Long time ago I read an article that said the artificial sweeteners chemicals never leave your body and I've never used it since. Personally, I think if somebody wants to slow down their sugar consumption, then they should use less sugar as opposed to put something chemical in it as a replacement.

I try using natural sugars. Honey on toast doesn't seem as sweet as chocolate spead on toast (perhaps I'm being strange) but the satisfaction lasts longer plus I can only eat so much honey but chocolate on the otherhand...

hi fidget. I'd prefer sugar to sweetners. Both when it comes to drinks or meals. I don't like that taste and I'm not sure using sweetners is healthy. I don't eat or drink many sweet things and I don't have any problems with my weight, so I don't even try to use sweetners. Luckily, I have never been on a diet, because I had no need:). I use sugar to sweeten my coffee (which I drink seldom). Or as an ingredient in few dishes. I drink tea without suger or sweerner, only with honey from time to time:). Have a nice day, jazgottt.

One of the main reasons I started using sweetners was due to being on a diet :( It just became routine after that. It's daft, people use sweetners as they're trying to loose weight but just mess up how to read their body as artifical sweetners don't stop sugar cravings so the end up snacking when a teaspoon in their coffee would have made all the difference. But I'm back on the sweetners again after quiting them for a while as my teeth are being a bit rebellious at the moment and I'm trying to avoid provoking them until they're sorted!

*pauses* Well... actually I never thought of it like that. Oh, I know it's called a 'tablet' but I though it was because it was a solid flat shape that sometimes has a logo on... can you tell I studied archaeology?! But thank you for your insight. Perhaps I'll be able to use it to help me cut them out again 'cause I've started up on that 'bad' habit again.
