Hi! My husband is applying for a job abroad and his medical examination resulted that he failed the ishihara test and that he is color blind. I havent talk to the agency yet if that will be a problem to his application. do you think that will be a hindrance for his job application? Specially he is applying as an assistant electrician. But I tested him with colors and he can answer correctly so i am thinking to get him another test just to confirm. But if he really is color blind what kind of job can he apply for?

Depends on how color blind he really is. If he is over a certain percent then yes his job list is limited. I have known people who were electricians that were color blind - not sure ho they did their job though. My husband is partially color blind and the only time he was ever limited by job choices was when he was in the military (he wasn't allowed to fly planes because you had to be able to read the colors on the flags and what not).
When you test your hubby, try to find a tes online for him to do. If you just hold a up a color and it is against another color (IE hold up a red shirt and you are wearing black), then he will be able to recognize the color no problem.

I would think that he could get any job he wanted, my husband is color blind and he's an Appliance Tech he has to deal with wires and parts and so on and he does fine.
There are differant degrees of Color Blindness, I know his good friend is color blind and he can't see anything but black and white. So he doesn't know what any color is, when he just bought his new truck he forgot to look at the sticker to see what color it was and when he got it home he called us so I could come and look at it and tell him what color it was.
My husband can see variations of black, grey and white. He can't dress the kids sometimes because he can't tell what matches and what doesn't.
I would ask him what he sees. What color does it look like to him. Point at something purple and see if he knows what color it is and so. Usually color blind can't tell mixtures of colors they just know the primary colors.
I wish him the best and I hope this has helped.

My hubby is color blind.
He is a concrete worker ( not union) he works for a small company.
But i am not sure if he does that cuz that is what his dad did or just that is what he wanted to do.
He grew up helping his dad so it is kinda just what he knows i guess.
But I am not going to be milk man cuz my dad drove a milk truck when i was a kid. :)

First off, you need to get him a full colour blind test. There is three types, (Red/Green, Blue/Yellow, and Total), and a grade system which is what effects jobs.
My brother had this problem, when he went for a job as a telephone engineer, so you cannot do that.
I found out at school, the Physics teacher thought I was having a laugh.
I later had it checked because the military want to know before you join, so I am grade 1 Red/green. This basically means I cannot fly planes for them or commercially.
It can be an advantage, I once had a job, and part of it became paint checking, if I could tell the difference it was not good enough. That is the only real world problem I have, close shades are the same colour.
Hope this helps.
