Arranging your outfit in public

I was just thinking about this as i went down an escalator... to what extent is it acceptable to arrange your outfit in public? To some, tucking in a shirt that has come out in places is fine. To others that is something best done in a toilet cubicle. How about retying a ribbon around your waist? Suppose it has come partially loose? But it is merely for decoration so tying it again doesn't really look too bad like you're changing clothes in public. Other examples I've seen are shifting a skirt that has moved around the waist to the side, such that the back slit is now slanted to one side. Do you think this is bad manners? What are other examples you can think of, of people arranging their outfits in public and what is the line you will draw between what is acceptable and what is bad manners?

My Mom raised me that you dresses and primped in private and if you needed adjustment those were also done in private. A "lady" didn't adjust clothing, brush hair, or fix make-up, in public. I know times are really different now though and have seen young ladies even changing their entire outfit in public - I look the other way and hope I taught my daughter better (although I know she does the same thing as others).

LOL - my father never understood, 4 women in the house and him. Mom and us girls had to have everything 'just right' before we left the house but Daddy could do all the 'adjusting' he wanted in public.

Hi there! This is an interesting observation! Yes, those shirt tucking, tie setting, shoe lacing, skirt pulling things are so common. In our country, I find girls arranging their dupattas ( a long cloth taken across the shoulders as an accessory to salwar kameezes) relentlessly. Even I do that many times. lol..
