I often think about this. You can offer rides, taxis, take away keys, some taverns in our area even have shuttles for patrons. But the thing is, when someone gets drunk they are no longer thinking clearly, and usually think they are OK to drive. Of course there are other repeat offenders that plain don't care, they even drive with suspended licenses. I think repeat offenders should have to have an electronic monitoring device on their ankle so they can't drive. But I'm not sure how you could prevent someone from getting behind the wheel drunk, besides the information they already know about it. They always think the accident will happen to "someone else". I guess we just have to keep educating, and have more drunk drivers themselves, talk to people. Like you are doing.

Right on slothgurl(67) It is a complicated situation and it is easy to get ahead of myself. The passion for change comes and goes. The accident i was in and also caused was awful, but it's over and with dedicated recovery i know things will arise that will bring change about.Let me know if anything important or worth talking about comes up!!!!!! take care internet Compadre

Oh I could talk about this subject forever. March 16 1999 my nephew and his girlfriend were killed by a drunk driver. I went to school with the dirver that killed them. His favorite thing to do was go 100 mph through a intersection by his house in the country and run the stop sign. It just so happened my nephew was driving through the intersection that night, the other way, and got t-boned by him. My nephew and his girlfriend were both killed instantly (thank God) because the car exploded into a fire ball and flew about 100ft through the air into someones yard. Of course the drunk driver lived. He said he didn't remember anything about the accident, and that he wasn't driving. (how would he know if he didn't remember?) There is way more to this story, I may continue sometime, or blog it or something. But he only got 4yrs in prison for this.
