I recently watched starwars episode Six: the return of the jedi. on the very last part of the movie the souls of Obi wan, yoda and anakin was shown. but to my surprise the very soul of anakin is the very actor hayden christensen who played anakin in episodes 2 and 3. I have doubt that perhaps what i have seen is the edited episode six...
Is the soul of anakin (who is portrayed by hayden) really appeared in the last part of episode six when it was first shown in the cinema?

No. The original release came out in May of 1983. Christensen was barely 2 years old. That is one of Many changes made for the 30 year re release.

That's exactly right. Only when they released the special edition on DVD was Anakin changed to his young self at the end of Jedi. Lucas felt that Anakin's soul was better portrayed as his young self before he turned to the dark side. This simply couldn't be done back when it was first released as there was no "young Anakin" actor to fill the role yet (since 1, 2, and 3 hadn't been filmed).

No. The darth vader portrayed in the original was much older.
If you ask me this shouldn't have been changed at all since Darth Vader should have "redeemed" himself when he killed the emperor and made amends with his son Luke.
I think it was more an act of whimsy on George Lucas' part either that or he just wanted to capitalize on the popularity of the newer movies at that time.

My 3 sons are star wars FREAKS, and I noticed that scene the other week when they were watching #6 (which to me, is still #3 lol). I wasn't paying attention to the entire movie, but it made me wonder what other changes were made.
I know that they took out some of the smudging at the bottom of the hovercraft machine that Luke drove in #4 (#1 to me lol), and that they added some scenes with various aliens, now that special effects and makeup are at a much higher quality than when the original trilogy was first released.
One thing that didn't change, which would be too difficult I know, is Luke's hair. It's such a bad look! LMAO!
